Location of Lauenberg in Lower Saxony

Lauenberg is a village in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the town of Dassel and is located in the Northeim district on the eastern edge of the Solling .

geography

Lauenberg Church

Lauenberg lies in a valley bordered by Ahlsburg (ridge) , Ellenser Wald and Solling and traversed by the Dieße . To the southwest of Lauenberg are the oak wood forests near Lauenberg .

history

The place is dominated by the ruins of the Löwenburg , which is also called Lauenburg. According to tradition that is not secured in writing, it was built by the Counts of Dassel in the High Middle Ages and is said to have passed to the Guelphs around 1250 . The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1388 and refers to the castle: daz slosz Lewenberg . As with numerous other castles, the name is derived from the Middle Low German Löuwe, lauwe, lōwe, lēwe = "lion" and thus to a popular heraldic animal. During the Hildesheim collegiate feud in 1519 , Hildesheim troops stationed at Hunnesrück Castle attacked the Lauenburg. This is considered to be the cause of the destruction of the castle that is visible today. The Lauenberg Church of St. Petri was built in 1779 in the style of a hall church.

Lauenberg was incorporated into the city of Dassel on March 1, 1974.

Seelzerthurm

The Seelzerthurm settlement is around one kilometer north of Lauenberg. The current buildings are on the site of an earlier watchtower . In 1569 he was named in a document by Erich II. Seltzer Thurmb . The name is derived from the local field mark, which was named after the deserted village of Selessen . The tower was used for border surveillance between the Erichsburg office in Calenberg and the Hunnesrück office in Hildesheim . The first residential building was a forester's house built in the 17th century.
