Segula Technologies ( spelling SEGULA Technologies ) is a family-run international engineering service provider based in Nanterre, France, near Paris . With 11,000 employees in 28 countries, the company is active in the automotive , aerospace , energy , rail , shipping , pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries.

history

Segula Technologies was founded in 1985 as an innovation and engineering services consultancy. In 2002 the company opened subsidiaries outside France for the first time, with branches in Spain , Romania and Tunisia . In 2005 branches in the United States and the People's Republic of China followed . In May 2007 Segula took over the Brazilian engineering services company Cardix SA, founded in 1991. In January 2009 the company acquired the prototype division of Matra Automobile , which specializes in electric vehicles . In the same year Segula presented under the name Sitrum a self-designed hybrid electric - truck before.

Segula has been present in Germany since 2011 with the establishment of Segula Technologies GmbH based in Ratingen ( Cologne since 2015 ). With the Hagura , Segula presented a vehicle concept in 2012 whose drive consisted of a two-stroke hybrid engine instead of the usual four- stroke engine.

In 2015 Segula acquired the Brazilian company Promax Engenharia, which specializes in engineering and product design . In 2016, Segula acquired Griswold Engineering Inc. , based in Plymouth , Michigan , 3AI , the French plastic parts designer , Sira France's Moroccan aerospace subsidiary , Sira Maroc , and the French oil and gas company Secomat and Horus .

Since then, Segula has acquired other product design and supplier companies from the United States, Brazil , Morocco and France, among others . In addition, Segula acquired the automotive design company Technicon . Technicon employs around 400 people worldwide, including at the German locations in Cologne and Munich . In addition, Segula acquired the Munich-based company EK Design, which was founded in 1994 and has around 400 employees.

In March 2017, Segula presented his new Hagora Pulse vehicle concept at the Geneva Motor Show , which features pedestrian detection, driver status detection and gesture control in combination with augmented reality elements. Between 2012 and 2017, the company increased its number of employees from around 6,700 in 2012 to around 11,000 in 2017. Between 2014 and 2017, the company increased its sales by around 60 percent through acquisitions and organic growth. According to its own information, the company aims to hire more than 4,600 new employees in 2018, around 50 percent of them outside France.

In June 2018 Segula and the Munich-based service provider ESG Elektroniksystem und Logistik-GmbH, which specializes in electronics and logistics, announced a cooperation for strategic projects and the joint support of customers. In July, Segula took over the French plastics technology company Activetech with 84 employees.

Takeover of parts of the Opel development center

In mid-November 2018, Segula and Opel announced that they had agreed on a strategic partnership. Parts of the Opel development center in Rüsselsheim, including 2000 employees, are to be taken over from Segula Technologies and a "technology campus" is to be created in Rüsselsheim. The Opel employees resisted, so that the automobile manufacturer had to find a solution in negotiations with the works council. In mid-March 2019, Opel reported that an agreement had been reached with the employees at the development center. Accordingly, the program for severance payments, partial retirement and early retirement will be offered again. This gives employees the choice of joining the new Segula Technologies company or accepting an offer from the program. For Opel the fact remains that 2000 jobs will be cut in the company.

Companies

Segula employs around 11,000 people in 140 branches in 28 countries. The company has around 100 branches in Europe, including five production sites in France for the manufacture of components for the aviation industry. In Germany and Austria, Segula Technologies has around 550 employees in Cologne, Landshut , Munich, Stuttgart , Wolfsburg , Görlitz , Steyr , Graz and Vienna .

Areas of activity

Segula is primarily active in product development for industrial customers. In addition, the company designs production processes including industrial systems and offers services in the areas of logistics, supply chain, or analyzes for performance improvement and feasibility studies. The company's major customers include Airbus , Alstom and, in the automotive sector, PSA , Renault , Audi , BMW and Porsche .

  • Automobiles and commercial vehicles: Segula develops individual components or complete vehicles from the external and internal design to the electronics and the engine. The company also designs machines for vehicle fleets and tests vehicles.
  • Aviation: With its subsidiary Simra , Segula develops aircraft design, drive systems and produces complete sub-assemblies for the aviation industry . The company also provides support with tests and maintenance. Services include civil and military aircraft, helicopters and satellites .
  • Energy: Segula supports its customers in the design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and dismantling of nuclear , thermal and renewable energy systems .
  • Rail sector: The company develops rail vehicles as well as signaling technology and electronic systems and supports them with their maintenance.
  • Shipping: Segula supports the design, industrialization, operation or dismantling of civil or military ships as well as in the area of ​​offshore and port facilities.
  • Oil and Gas: The company develops plants, refineries, platforms and locations for the oil, gas and chemical industries. This also includes feasibility and design studies.
  • Pharmaceuticals: In the health sector, Segula implements solutions for customers for the integration of regulatory requirements, identifies improvements in the production process and supports their implementation. The company carries out studies, develops production systems or supports maintenance.

Awards

In 2018, Segula Technologies was awarded the European Business Award by the Spanish agency EFE for its customer commitment .
