The 2001/02 season of Serie B started on August 26, 2001 and ended on June 2, 2002. With Como Calcio and FC Modena , two promoted teams were able to celebrate their direct march through to Serie A. Reggina Calcio succeeded in direct promotion back to the House of Lords. Ternana Calcio only stayed in Serie B because first division relegated AC Florence did not receive a license and was ultimately dissolved. The top scorer was Luís Oliveira from Como Calcio with 23 goals this season.
