In the 2008/09 season , the America's Cup of skeleton drivers was held for the ninth time. This season the competition series consisted of eight races, each of which was held in four double events. The first three double events were held before the season in the Skeleton World Cup 2008/09 , the last followed at the end of the season. The America's Cup thus marked the beginning and the end of the international skeleton season.
Eligible to start were five athletes from the Canadian, US and Japanese associations as well as four starters from South Korea (men only), Australia and New Zealand. All not already listed countries of the American double continent, Asia and Australia and Oceania were each entitled to three starting places. The remaining countries from Europe and Africa were each allowed two starting places. One athlete received 75 points for a win, the following starters correspondingly less. All points went into an overall ranking, which was fed from the four racing series World Cup, Intercontinental Cup as well as Europe and America's Cup, the FIBT Skeleton Ranking 2008/09 . While starters from Switzerland have been active since the beginning of the series, starters from Germany only intervened from the third station and Austrians did not intervene in the competition at all.
