Smashes, Thrashes & Hits is a music album by the hard rock band Kiss . It was released on November 15, 1988. It was the group's third best-of album, but only the second to be released in the US , where Killers had n't been released. It appeared in two versions with slightly different titles for the American and European markets.
Emergence
The album was compiled from the original recordings of popular Kiss songs, some of which were remixed . To boost sales, two new Paul Stanley- produced tracks were included, Let's put the X in Sex (written by Paul Stanley and Desmond Child ) and (You Make me) Rock Hard (written by Stanley, Child and Diane Warren ).
A special feature of the album was the re-recording of the title Beth , which was not sung by Peter Criss, but by Eric Carr - for the production only the vocal track of the title originally recorded in 1976 was replaced by the version sung by Carr. His vocals were recorded in the same studio in which Peter Criss recorded the title. It was the first release of a song sung by Carr on a Kiss album, although the drummer had already taken on the vocals for the track "Black Diamond" when he joined the group in 1980. He later regretted allowing himself to be persuaded to make this recording, but justified this with his long-cherished wish to be able to sing a track on a Kiss album.
Cover
The cover of the LP edition showed a photo of the current line-up on the front; in the foreground you could see outstretched arms and hands, which should symbolize a cheering crowd. These hands could also be seen on the back, above was the list of titles, the record itself was in a paper sleeve with the lyrics of the songs printed on it. The CD and MC edition of the album, on the other hand, contained a multi-part folding booklet with the lyrics of the individual tracks .; the CD contained one more track ( Calling Dr. Love ) than the record.
publication
Smashes, Thrashes and Hits was released in November 1988 as LP, Picture Disc , CD and MC. In contrast to the regular LP edition, the Picture Disc appeared in a gatefold cover. On the front, the album title was next to the group's logo, and the line “15 Years of Kisstory” could also be read at the bottom. On the inside of the cover there were four photos from the time before and after the unmasking of the group, as well as a text on the history of the group.
Two singles were released: In November 1988, Let's put the X in Sex was released (back: Calling Dr. Love ), followed in January 1989 (You Make me) Rock Hard (back: Deuce ). Let's put the X in Sex was also released as a maxi single, which contained four different remixes of the title. Both singles were also released in the USA on CDV , each with four tracks that could be listened to on normal CD players. They also contained the video clip of the respective title track, which could only be viewed on laser disc players. The two CDVs were the last to be released by Kiss.
