geography
The district of Sonnendorf is located to the northeast on a flat northern roof of a long Ilm valley hill. In the Ilm Valley , the state road 1060 from Bad Sulza leads east towards Großheringen .
history
The place Sonnendorf was mentioned for the first time on February 27, 1699, while Bad Sulza was on September 10, 1049. Sonnendorf belonged to the Ernestine Office of Roßla , which at the time the town was founded belonged to Saxe-Weimar and from 1741 to Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach . During the administrative reform of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, the place came to the administrative district Weimar II ( administrative district Apolda ) in 1850 . Sonnendorf belonged to the state of Thuringia since 1920.
Bad Sulza can look back on 800 years of viticulture. In the Middle Ages , up to 10,000 hectares of wine are said to have been grown. Today there are 40 hectares in the Saale-Unstrut-Thuringian vineyard Bad Sulza. In 1992 the current Bad Sulza winery was founded. The seat and the winery were furnished according to tradition and modernity in Sonnendorf. The guest can be surprised by the fine range of wines. Awards prove the high quality of the wines. The nature in Bad Sulza, Bad Kösen , Schulpforta , Naumburg , Dornburg / Saale , Apolda and Jena also invites you to go hiking. On January 22, 1994, the formerly independent community of Sonnendorf was incorporated into Bad Sulza.
