The Church of St. Anna is a Catholic parish church in Furschweiler , a district of the municipality of Namborn in the St. Wendel district , Saarland . It bears the patronage of St. Anne and is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland list of monuments .

history

The planning for the construction of the parish church of St. Anna in Furschweiler, for which the architect Streib ( Coburg ) was responsible, began in 1821. Furschweiler was then in the Principality of Lichtenberg , which belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg-Saalfeld . After Ernst I , Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (from 1826 Saxe-Coburg and Gotha ) approved the construction, the execution of the construction work was publicly awarded on August 19, 1825. On the Klingelberg , the stones for the church building were probably broken and in the surrounding forests most of the wood required for the building, mostly donated, was felled . The building materials were in forced labor brought to the construction site. The shell was completed in 1827 and the church was consecrated on July 27, 1828.

Extensive work was carried out inside and outside the church between 1845 and 1896: external plaster was applied, the interior was completed, a two-part bell peal was purchased and finally a new sacristy was added, whereby the original sacristy was retained as an extension of the choir room .

In 1922/1923 the church underwent a thorough renovation under the direction of an architect , and new benches were also purchased. Warm air heating was installed between 1935 and 1942 , which was converted to oil in 1962. In 1941 new oak doors were installed on the main portal and the side entrance. Due to the weather, the door on the main portal had to be replaced in 1975 by a door studded with copper on both sides . As part of further renovation work, new furnishings were purchased between 1947 and 1950, and renovation and renovation measures were carried out in the church. At the end of 1954 a clock was attached to the church tower and an electrical bell system was installed. Since on May 8, 1955 part of the sandstone cornice on the street side broke off over a length of 20 meters, repair work had to be carried out. In 1973 further renovation work was necessary, in the course of which the entire nave was re-covered. The tower was given a new roof as early as 1968. Renewed renovation work was necessary in 1975, when a glass door was installed in the entrance area of the church. In the period from 1986 to 1988, the church was again renovated and the choir room redesigned. In addition, the new roofing of the sacristy, the handicapped-accessible expansion of the side entrance and the installation of a new loudspeaker system were carried out. In 1991/1992, the renovation work on the church was provisionally completed with further work on the exterior. In 2007, extensive work was carried out on the bell tower. A redesign of the church environment took place in 2010.

Architecture and equipment

The church building, built in the classical style, is divided from southwest to northeast into a tower with a pointed helmet , a five-axis nave , and a five-sided polygonal choir. The floor plan and style of the nave are reminiscent of church buildings by Peter Reheis in Illingen, Blieskastel and Reinheim.

The church's furnishings include the church stalls with artistically turned end pieces from 1922/23, which were made by the joinery Johann Mettler ( Morbach ), the Way of the Cross from 1958, created by the Mettler company ( St. Wendel ), as well as the altar , stele , ambo and Sedilien , which the sculptor Oliberius (Saal im Ostertal) made between 1986 and 1988.

In the choir there are three lead glass windows that were installed in January 1951 by the company Binsfeld-Dornoff, ( Trier ).

organ

The predecessor of today's organ was delivered in 1913 as Opus 509 by the organ building workshop Johannes Klais ( Bonn ) and, with its romantic sound, remained unchanged until 1975. The Kegelladen instrument had 21 (22) stops , divided into 2 manuals and pedal . The game and stop action was pneumatic. After renovation work in the church in 1975, part of the ceiling fell over the organ and largely destroyed the instrument. A reconstruction by the Klais company was not carried out for cost reasons. Instead, the Hugo Mayer company ( Heusweiler ) was commissioned to build a new organ, which was put into service in 1977.

The Mayer organ has slide chests and has 16 registers, divided into 2 manuals and pedal. The action mechanism is mechanical, the stop action is electric. The disposition is as follows:

A new bell, cast by the Mabilon bell foundry ( Saarburg ), consisting of three bells, was purchased in 1923. Today's bell, which also comes from the Mabilon company in Saarburg, was handed over to its destination on February 20, 1953. It consists of three bells bearing the names of Christ the King (original inscription : Christ vincit; weight: 24 quintals ; clay: e), St. Anna (original inscription: Sancta Anna, patrona nostra, ora pro nobis; weight: 14 quintals; clay : g) and Maria (original inscription: regina pacis; weight 10 quintals; clay: a) carry.
