As one of the first churches it bears the patronage of the Capuchin brother Konrad von Parzham , who was canonized on May 20, 1934 .

history

The Roman Catholic community in Falkensee has existed since 1924. On April 1, 1936, it became independent pastoral care workers with around 1500 members . The church was built by Viktor Schiwy, the pastor of Berlin-Spandau at the time , according to the plans of the diocesan building councilor Carl Kühn . The construction was carried out by the Falkensee company Eduard Stroka. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 17, 1934 on November 4, 1934, the Church of the Berlin was Bishop Nikolaus Bares ordained . The parish , which has been independent since 1962, was previously assigned to the parish in Berlin-Staaken .

In 1938 the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary rented a building at Kochstrasse 1, where they had a branch until 1983. This was used as a community center until the early 1990s . In the 1970s, pastor Kurth Kemp (1960–1983) bought a house about 200 meters from the church that housed the priest's apartment and, after the sister's establishment closed, it served as a parsonage.

On June 25, 2011, Prelate Ronald Rother inaugurated a new community center on the church property. The new building was unavoidable due to the fact that the church had grown from around 950 to 2500 Catholics when the Wall came down . The foundation stone for this was laid on June 20, 2010, but construction began on May 17, 2010. Since then, the church and community rooms have been connected to one another by a glass wall.

Since March 5, 2018, the parish has formed the pastoral area “Spandau-Nord /” with the parishes Maria, Hilfe der Christisten in Spandau , St. Joseph in Siemensstadt and St. John the Baptist Dallgow-Döberitz (parish St. Marien, Brieselang ) Falkensee ”to prepare a merger into a single parish .

The church building is a single-nave and simple, sturdy hall building with a retracted rectangular choir and a saddle roof . The interior is characterized by light walls, colored glass windows and a light vaulted ceiling with dark wooden beams. A cubic, wooden-paneled tower with a tent roof stands in the middle above the entrance portal .

The arched windows show motifs for the festivals of the church year ; they were designed by Egbert Lammers and executed in 1939 by the August Wagner company in Berlin-Treptow. The glass wall to the community center on the right-hand side was designed by Espen Tollefsen and implemented by the Peters company from Paderborn .

The high altar that existed before the Second Vatican Council was exchanged for a simple wooden altar.

The statue of the church patron, St. Konrad, is a carving from Altötting , the place where the saint worked. The baptismal font donated by the family of the first person to be baptized bears the inscription “My baptismal covenant should always be celebrated”. Symbols from the church year based on designs by Egbert Lammers (1908–1996) can be seen on the windows of the church . The Way of the Cross was designed in 1999 by parishioner Horst Manthee.

Bells

An iron bell from 1914 was replaced by two new bells in spring 2018 because it was damaged. The bronze bells were cast by the company Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock in Gescher and consecrated on April 22, 2018 by the Berlin Archbishop Heiner Koch . The larger bell is named after the church patron Konrad von Parzham and takes on the task of the Capuchin brother Konrad, who was porter in the Capuchin monastery of Altötting for many years , with the inscription “I stand at the door and knock” ( Rev. 3.20  EU ) . The second bell, the Marienglocke , recalls the patronage of the two former churches of Maria Rosenkranzkönigin in Schönwalde and Regina Pacis in Finkenkrug; it bears the inscription "Magnificat anima mea Dominum", "My soul praises the greatness of the Lord" ( Lk 1.46  EU ), the beginning of the Magnificat .

Chapel "Regina Pacis"

The Catholic chapel “Regina pacis” in the Falkensee district of Finkenkrug , which was formerly part of the community, was sold on January 15, 2014, as the Archbishop's Ordinariate only approved the construction of the community center on the condition that the community of St. Konrad supported the majority of the new building Self-funded property sales proceeds. In addition, according to the renovation plan of the Archdiocese of Berlin , 25% of the pastorally used area in the parishes should be dismantled by 2006. So the sale was planned well in advance.

On February 23, the congregation took leave of the chapel in a festive service with the auxiliary bishop emeritus Wolfgang Weider . Since February 28, 2014, the Regina Pacis Chapel has been de-dedicated by a decree of the then Archbishop of Berlin Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki and is no longer a consecrated place.

The property was handed over to the new owners on April 17, 2014 and transferred to the buyer on August 19, 2014 in the Falkensee land register at the Nauen district court .
