The Church of St. Margaretha is a Roman Catholic parish church in Besch , a district of the Perl municipality , Merzig-Wadern district , Saarland . The church bears the patronage of Saint Margaretha and is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland monuments list.

history

Among the possessions of the St. Maximin Abbey in Trier , the Besche , which belongs to the Luxembourg court of Remich, appeared as a Bessiacum or Besche for the first time on January 11, 1026 in King Konrad's letter of protection . In a confirmation letter from May 6th 1140 issued by Pope Innocent II of St. Maximin Abbey, a church in Bescha was mentioned. The construction of a church with three altars in Besch for the year 1309, which was already dedicated to St. Margaret and whose collator was the Abbot of St. Maximin, was documented. For parish Besch included as branches by the year 1803 also the places Wochern and the Luxembourg Schwebsingen. The roof of the church was destroyed by fire in 1814.

The church was rebuilt between 1848 and 1849 according to plans by the architect Alexius Faure ( Saarburg ). Master builder Josef Weis (Trier) was responsible for the execution. The consecration of the new church took place on June 11, 1853.

From 1955 to 1956 the church was subjected to a restoration under the direction of the architect Toni Laub ( Saarwellingen ) . Another restoration took place in 1986 under the architect Löwenberg (Saarburg).

Furnishing

The equipment of the church one belongs Crucifixion in the choir room with old Baroque figures of Mary and John from wood that were after restoration established by E. Thienelt in 1956 there, and previously were not in the church, the altar by sculptor Joan Thimmel ( Borg ), a baroque figure of St. Margaret made of sandstone from 1984 , which was found in the chimney of the rectory and restored by Nikolaus Schmitt ( Nennig ), as well as a wooden figure of St. Joseph from around 1975.

Glass painter Rudi Schillings (Trier) designed ten windows and two window rosettes depicting the seven sacraments and the scene "Peter denies Jesus", and were executed by the Binsfeld company (Trier) in 1955–56.

On the soffit of the arch are Eucharistic symbols in connection with vines and grapes . By painter Nicolas Schmitt (Nennig) in 1986, two kneeling were Cherubim and ceiling paintings created "Apocalyptic Lamb with the four evangelists and their symbols."

Architect Toni Laub (Saarwellingen) designed the portals built by Matthias Marx (Perl) in 1955/1956 .

The church organ was built in 1995 by Hugo Mayer ( Heusweiler ). The abrasive loading -instrument has 16 registers , spread over 2 manuals and pedal . The playing and stop action is mechanical.
