Star Trek: Phase Two

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Star Trek: Phase Two was the title of a television series planned by Paramount Pictures for the year 1978, which should be a direct sequel to Starship Enterprise .

The series should take up the concept of the Starship Enterprise again, in particular the crew and the ship ( USS Enterprise ) should be retained. The only thing missing was the popular character of the Vulcan Spock , as the actor Leonard Nimoy was not ready to resume his role on television, among other things because, in the view of the actor, Paramount denigrated the character Spock through intolerable advertising licenses. This is how Spock becomes on a Heineken-Poster shown on which the drink has a vitalizing effect on Spock's initially sagging ear tips. Other sources report that Nimoy did not want to be exposed to a weekly series again.

Instead, a Vulcan named Xon was planned, whose parents, unlike Spocks, were both Vulcans. David Gautreaux was supposed to take over the role of Xon , who can then be seen in the movie in a short scene as the commander of the Epsilon 9 space station , when an agreement was reached with Nimoy and he was convinced to take over his old role.

Finally, the decision was made differently and instead of the series, the movie Star Trek: The Film was shot . Some of the sets already made for the series were used in the film; In addition, the script of the film roughly corresponds to that of the planned pilot episode, which was run under the production title " In thy Image ".

Some of the stories and concepts planned for the series were ultimately realized in Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century , others in the fan fiction project Star Trek: Phase II .

Others

The fan group around the actor James Cawley succeeded in 2008 in gaining the title Star Trek: Phase II for their fan fiction series, which has been running since 2004 and initially under the title Star Trek: New Voyages .
