production
September 1996 marked the 30th anniversary of Star Trek's television broadcast . To mark the occasion, the episode, which was originally intended as the season opener, was always produced with the Tribbles ( Trials and Tribble-ations ). In it, main characters from Deep Space Nine interact with those from Starship Enterprise , including Kirk and Spock . The episode picks up on the theme of the Starship Enterprise episode Do you know Tribbles? again, in which small fur animals , called tribbles, multiply at breakneck speed. For the production of the episode, among other things, copies of the backdrops were faithfully reproduced, uniforms were tailored and models of spaceships and stations were built. In reused scenes from both Do You Know Tribbles? as well as from A Parallel Universe , the Deep Space Nine figures were inserted using digital image processing .
Reviews
“ The fifth season of the 'Deep Space 9' series with the story of the beginning Dominion War [is] still very exciting and can even increase it. Star Trek had never been as action-packed and multi-layered at the time the series aired as it is now shown in the fifth season. But also the amusing as well as personal stories are not neglected here. "

“ [...] the only difference to the previous year is at most only a minimal downward trend in the general story quality. Except for the rather miserable double pack 'Die Reise nach Risa' (Let he who is without sin ...) and 'Die Schuld' (Things Past), the season turns out to be consistently above average, and scores massively with its own selection of classic trek- Episodes.
