Steinbach is a district of Michelstadt in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse . The place is known nationwide for the Einhards basilica located here .
history
The oldest surviving documentary mention as Steinbach in the Lorsch Codex dates from 1095. It attests to the possession of a hat in the Cella Michelstadt .
The place was already settled in Roman times. In the early Middle Ages there was probably a homestead here, in the place of which Einhard had a new structural complex built with a basilica completed in 827 . The castle, known today as Schloss Fürstenau , was first mentioned here in 1310 . The village developed around the castle and basilica.
