This is a directory of street names in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .

The directory gives the name of the street and (in brackets) the district. An explanation (year of naming, reason) for the street name is given. Because of the large number of streets, the directory was divided according to the first letters of the street names. Under "General" you will find the introduction and explanations of the street names in general.

  • Lagerstraße (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
  • Lambert-Steinwich-Strasse (Franconia / Frankenvorstadt)
The street in the mayor's quarter was built in 1926 and was first called Hans-Rose-Straße . Hans Rose was the Stralsund master carpenter who renewed the barricade of the tower of the Marienkirche in 1473 . In 1938 the Lambert-Steinwich memorial , which had been on the Alter Markt , was moved by the Nazis to the Wulflamufer and the street in Lambert-Steinwich-Strasse was named after the mayor Dr. Lambert Steinwich renamed, the Stralsund u. a. at the time of the defense against Wallenstein . Mainly the building cooperative for state employees and the GAGFAH built a number of tenement houses from 1926 to 1930.
Part of today's Rudolf-Breitscheid-Strasse was also called Lambert-Steinwich-Strasse at the end of the 19th century.

  • Langenstrasse (old town / old town)
The Long Road was first mentioned in 1275. It was laid out as planned from the Neuer Markt to the harbor and got its name due to its atypical length. It was an important link between the new town and the port. In 1613 the street was still called Langenstraße , in 1624 it is recorded as Langestraße , in the address book in 1951 it was called Lange Straße . Since the 1960s, Langenstrasse has prevailed again as the spelling.

  • Leo-Tolstoy-Weg (Knieper / Knieper West)
Named after the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.
  • Lerchenweg (Lüssower Berg / Am Lüssower Berg)
Named after the lark . Many streets in this neighborhood are named after native bird species.
  • Liebitzweg (Franconia / Dänholm)
Named after the island of Liebitz in the Baltic Sea west of the island of Rügen . This belongs to the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park .
  • Lilienthalstrasse (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
Named after the aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal, who was born in Anklam . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.
  • Lindenallee (Grünhufe / Vogelsang or Grünthal-Viermorgen)

This street has existed since the beginning of the 19th century. The way was called Am Bleicherwege . In the middle of the 19th century it was named after the grove . The Stralsunders mostly called the route Kanonenweg , as the artillery stationed in Stralsund's garrison drove to the training area on it. In 1869 it was officially renamed to this name. In September 1951 the street name was changed to Schwedenweg , and in 1952 to Feldweg . It is not known when it was finally renamed Lindenstrasse . This name is already included on a city map from 1955.

Named after the German writer Lion Feuchtwanger . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.
  • Lobshagen (old town / old town)
The street Lobshagen probably got its name after a family who immigrated to Stralsund from a place called Labes or Lobes in the 14th or 15th century and who owned some properties on this street. The ending -hagen carry streets that run along the city wall or lead directly to it.
  • Louis-Fürnberg-Weg (Knieper / Knieper West)
Named after the poet and writer Louis Fürnberg . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.

  • Lübecker Allee (Grünhufe / Grünthal-Viermorgen)
Named after the city of Lübeck . After the political and economic turnaround in the GDR, the residential area was mainly given the names of cities with which Stralsund was closely connected during the Hanseatic League .
  • Lupinenweg (Grünhufe / Stadtkoppel)
Named after the lupine . Much of the streets in this neighborhood are named after native plants and shrubs.
