Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) is a 1983 song by the Eurythmics . It was written by the band and produced by Dave Stewart . The song is usually just called Sweet Dreams . The song was written on the day Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart broke up and shows Lennox's view of what drives people in their lives. In the list of the 500 best songs of all time , the song reached number 356.

Emergence

Annie Lennox had found her relationship with Stewart to be very stressful and Stewart said that she would end it. While this was taking this seriously, Stewart went to the drum machine to program some rhythms. These aroused Lennox's interest and she sat down at the synthesizer . According to Stewart, the main riff melody came "out of nowhere" and the duo started the tape recorder . Annie Lennox started singing and the song was finished in half an hour. Stewart later explained that he had simply pressed the wrong button on the drum machine and that was how the rhythm came about.

The recordings took place on an eight-track recorder . The duo used countless different textures to give the song a sophisticated sound. There was a wood factory near the recording studio, so the recordings of the singing had to be interrupted again and again due to the noise at work. The clicks during the last repetition of the chorus were not recorded with electronic aids. The duo filled empty milk bottles with different amounts of water and struck them in the desired places.
