geography

course

The source of the Tälesbach is located on the south-eastern outskirts of Althengstett near the Jägerberg. The Tälesbach from there flows initially verdolt by Althengstett before on the southwestern outskirts again enters into the open. A few hundred meters downstream, for the first of three times, it crosses the disused section Weil der Stadt –Calw of the Württemberg Black Forest Railway and immediately afterwards the federal road 295 . It then flows for about a kilometer between meadows through the open corridor until it reaches a wooded area north of the Heumaden district of Calw. Its longest tributary, the Neuhengstetter Bach, flows here from the right . From now on, the Tälesbach digs itself in quickly. He has formed a small characteristic notched valley with steep slopes on both sides, a so-called blade . This one and a half kilometer long section of the valley bearing the field names Fuchsklinge . Here the valley stream flows naturally over banks and next to rocks made of red sandstone . Another larger tributary, Mönchlochgraben, flows into this area from the right .

The construction of the Württemberg Black Forest Railway greatly changed the next section of the valley. In the lower Tälesbachtal, large parts of a loop were laid , on which the railway line overcomes the great difference in altitude to the right plateau in a gentle ascent from the Nagoldtal. When it was built in the second half of the 19th century, large amounts of it were backfilled, and the Tälesbach was relocated and canalized in sections. The first large embankment in the direction of flow of the stream filled the Kerbtal bottom to a level surface. The railway line emerges here in a downward direction from the Welzberg tunnel on the left flank of the valley and crosses the old stream on this area.

At the beginning of this embankment, the Tälesbach is now artificially divided into an above-ground and an underground branch. The underground branch is fed by an invisible drain located under the stream bed, which can only absorb and discharge a limited amount of water. In the event of prolonged dry weather, all the water carried by the valley stream disappears between the stones of the bed of the stream in this area, flows underground in a channel made of sandstones under the railway line and comes back to the surface below the railway crossing. In the artificial stream bed of the above-ground branch, which is partly made of concrete, no more water flows in such dry phases. However, when the water flow in the Tälesbach is stronger, water also flows in the above ground bed. This openly flowing branch first crosses under a forest path ( Welzbergweg ) and then runs on its side under a small railway bridge on the railway line. After this, its water falls over a multi-level concrete overflow structure from the embankment down into the natural valley floor. Here, below the embankment area, it unites with the other course, which is now open again, to form a stream bed.

The other large embankment in the valley, an approx. 64 m high railway embankment, on which the railway line then crosses the course of the valley stream for the third time, seals off the valley as far as the crest of the dam to form a basin . A tunnel about two meters high leads the stream out of it; before and after him, the Tälesbach runs several hundred meters canalized in a concrete bed.

Serious consequences for the Tälesbachtal also have two now closed landfills on the two valley slopes in the valley basin and on its edge. From about 1944 to 1973 the Deutsche Bundesbahn operated a landfill with its own siding on the northern slope, and the city of Calw on the opposite southern slope . Garbage and rubble were dumped down into the valley basin, sometimes without compacting it; in some places the dump almost reaches the artificial concrete bed of the stream through which it is led in the landfill area. Soil surveys in 2004 showed that both slopes threatened to slide down at the level of the landfills and below into the valley basin. If this were to happen, the pollutants washed into the Tälesbach and then into the Nagold would cause considerable damage to the environment. Slipping material could possibly even block the flow of the stream from the valley basin and back up the water.

The district office of Calw therefore obliged the previous operators to secure their former landfills. The plan is to fill the basin with very large amounts of earth so that the slopes are statically secured against slipping. The Tälesbach to in this section verdolt be underground and be directed out of the hazard area. In 2012, preparatory measures such as building work routes and clearing the affected slopes were started. The actual measures are to begin in May 2015, the Tälesbach will first be diverted and then the replenishment work will start.

Below the valley basin, the stream falls in its concrete bed almost to the level of the Nagold and also passes under the Nagold Valley Railway and the federal highways 296 and 463, which are combined into one road between Calw and Hirsau . Then it flows on the southern edge of the Hirsauer Kurpark next to the river footbridge from the right and east into the Nagold, which flows northwards here.

Tributaries

Ordered from the source to the mouth:

  • Neuhengstetter Bach , from the right to about 455  m above sea level. NHN at the entrance to the forest north of Heumaden. Has a length of 2.5 km from the exit from its Verdolung to about 525  m above sea level. NHN on the northern edge of the Langenlöchle forest near Neuhengstett . Before that, he is led underground through Neuhengstett.
  • Mönchlochgraben , from the right to below 445  m above sea level. NHN in the beginning of the Fuchsklinge , 1.8 km. Arises at about 533  m above sea level. NHN in the Schlehdorn forest between Neuhengstett and Ottenbronn in its west.
