Takahito Suzuki ( Japanese 鈴木 貴人 , Suzuki Takahito ; born August 17, 1975 in Tomakomai , Hokkaidō ) is a former Japanese ice hockey player , who was last under contract with the Nikkō Ice Bucks from the Asia League Ice Hockey until 2013 , and today's coach.

Career

Takahito Suzuki began his career as a hockey player at Augustana University , for whose ice hockey team he was active in the 1996/97 season. From 1998 to 2002, the winger played for the Kokudo Ice Hockey Club in the Japan Ice Hockey League , before playing for the Charlotte Checkers in the ECHL in the 2002/03 season. For the Checkers he scored 49 points in 72 games, including 24 goals. From 2003 to 2006 he played for his ex-team Kokudo Ice Hockey Club in the newly founded Asia League Ice Hockey , where he continued to participate in the Japan Ice Hockey League in the first year after his return with the team. In 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2004 he won the Japanese ice hockey league with the club and thus the national championship . From 2006 to 2009 he played for the Seibu Prince Rabbits in the Asia League, before moving within the league to the Nikkō Ice Bucks in the summer of 2009 , for which he played until 2013 when he ended his career.

International

For Japan , Suzuki took part in the 1997 C World Championships , the 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 and 2004 World Championships and the Division I World Championships in 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2013 , where he was the captain of the 2010 Japanese team was. He was also in his country's squad at the 2007 Asian Winter Games in Changchun and 2011 in Astana . At the Winter Asian Games 2007 he and his team won the gold medal and at the Winter Asian Games 2011 the silver medal.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Suzuki struck a coaching career. He supervised the selection of Japanese students at the 2013 and 2015 Winter Universiades as an assistant trainer. He was also the assistant coach of the national team from the land of the rising sun at the 2016 World Cup , where the Japanese played in Division I.
