history

The square village of Görnitz was mentioned in 1378 as "Gornicz". With regard to the manorial rule, the place was partly subject to the parish of Oelsnitz, the council of Oelsnitz, partly as an official village to the office of Voigtsberg and the manor Brambach . Around 1764 a part of Görnitz was subordinate to the council of Oelsnitz and the other part as an official village to the Voigtsberg office. The Tanzermühle in Görnitzer Flur at the confluence of the Görnitzbach in the White Elster, mentioned at that time, was completely subordinate to the council of Oelsnitz. Until 1856 Görnitz belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Voigtsberg. In 1856 the place was affiliated to the Oelsnitz court office and in 1875 to the Oelsnitz administration . In church terms, Görnitz used to be parish to Unterwürschnitz, today the place is parish to Oelsnitz.

On July 1, 1950, Görnitz was moved to Oelsnitz / Vogtl. incorporated. Through the second district reform in the GDR , Görnitz came to be part of the new district town of Oelsnitz / Vogtl. in 1952 to the district of Oelsnitz in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Oelsnitz and was incorporated into the Vogtlandkreis in 1996.
