The estate settlement Untermarxgrün was mentioned in 1378 as "Nydernmargharsgrune". The manor located in the village was initially a Vorwerk of Voigtsberg Castle . An official manor was first mentioned in Untermarxgün in 1582, i. H. the landlord had higher and inheritance jurisdiction over his subjects. At that time the estate already belonged to the council of Oelsnitz. As a result of the Thirty Years War , the Untermarxgrün manor, which had meanwhile been divided into two manors, was sold. It was not until the Plauen merchant Gottlob Schmidt that both goods were reunited under one owner in 1780. After Schmidt's death, the two goods came to the later Chamber Commissioner Friedrich Gottlob Kretzschmar through the marriage of his daughter Julie Amalie Schmidt. After a fire, the baroque house on the lower estate was rebuilt as a three-storey building in 1826. Kretzschmar sold the Untermarxgrün manor in 1840 to the retired district forester Friedrich Gottfried, who in turn sold it to Gottfried Julis Zeidler in 1854.

Until 1856, Untermarxgrün belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Voigtsberg . In 1856 the place was affiliated to the Oelsnitz court office and in 1875 to the Oelsnitz administration . In terms of church, Obermarxgrün has always been after Oelsnitz / Vogtl. parish.

With the opening of the Herlasgrün – Oelsnitz railway line , Untermarxgrün received a station in the north of the village in 1856. After a fire in 1870 there were no remains of the Untermarxgrün manor in the upper part. The remaining manor in the lower part came in 1903 to Hermann Dietrich, the part owner of the Vogtländische Maschinenfabrik AG (VOMAG) in Plauen, which had emerged from the Vogtländische Maschinenfabrik JC & H. Dietrich founded in 1881. The Untermarxgrün mansion was extensively redesigned under Hermann Dietrich. Alfred Dietrich, the last landowner in Untermarxgrün, was arrested from 1945 as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone . He died in a Soviet camp. The confiscated property was divided among new farmers . The manor house was used for an agricultural school from 1948, which was moved to Oberlosa the following year.

The municipality Untermarxgrün was on April 1, 1949 after Oelsnitz / Vogtl. incorporated. Untermarxgrün station went out of service with the closure of the Lottengrün – Oelsnitz section on April 27, 1951. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Untermarxgrün came to the Oelsnitz district in the Chemnitz district as part of the new district town of Oelsnitz in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ). From 1960, the council of the Oelsnitz district set up various offices in the Untermarxgrün mansion. The manor was needed for a machine rental station, which later became part of the Oelsnitz district operations for agricultural technology. The pond in the estate park was filled in in 1970.

Untermarxgrün came as a district of Oelsnitz / Vogtl. in 1990 to the Saxon district of Oelsnitz, which became part of the Vogtland district in 1996. As the new owner of the Untermarxgrün mansion, he housed the veterinary office and an agricultural school in the building in 2002. Since the Vogtlandkreis sold the Untermarxgrün mansion, including mansion and park, to designers Willo Steen and Rolf Schneider in 2005, the new owners have been using the mansion as a residence and administration with showrooms from Steen Design. On January 1st, 2011 Untermarxgrün became part of the municipality of Oelsnitz / Vogtl. painted.
