history

Magwitz Manor

The square village of Magwitz was mentioned for the first time in 1236, naming a manor house and the noble "Cunradus de Machwiz". The manor Magwitz exercised the manorial rule over the place until the 19th century . Ecclesiastically, Magwitz has always been part of the Planschwitz parish . Magwitz was affected by the persecution of witches from 1660 to 1661. Kunigunde Vogel got into a witch trial and was sentenced to expulsion from the country. Until 1856 Magwitz belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Voigtsberg . In 1856 the place was affiliated to the Oelsnitz court office and in 1875 to the Oelsnitz administration . Between 1935 and 1938, the Pirk dam was built northeast of the village . In 1937 the usable area of the manor Magwitz was sold to the Weißelsterverband, who used part of it for the construction of the Pirk dam. After the expropriation in the course of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone from 1945 , the property was used by the LPG between 1952 and 1990 .

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Magwitz and its district of Göswein became part of the Oelsnitz district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ). On January 1, 1973 it was incorporated into Planschwitz. Since 1990 Magwitz has belonged as a district of the municipality of Planschwitz to the Saxon district of Oelsnitz, which became part of the Vogtland district in 1996. With the incorporation of Planschwitz into Oelsnitz, Magwitz became a part of the city of Oelsnitz / Vogtl on January 1, 1994.
