Texas Rangers is an American Western from director Steve Miner from 2001, based on the memoirs Taming the Nueces Strip: The Story of McNelly's Rangers from George Durham .

action

After the American Civil War in 1875, the Texas Southwest developed into a dangerous place; there is anomie . John King Fisher and his gang are terrorizing the country by stealing herds of cattle, raiding cattle ranches and killing anyone who gets in their way, operating from Mexico. The government is no longer willing to stand by and calls the terminally ill ex-preacher Leander H. McNelly to form a police unit - the Texas Rangers .

Civil War veteran Leander and Sergeant Armstrong rush to recruit the first volunteers, including Durham and Dunnison, whose families were murdered by King Fisher's gang. Before long, 30 Texas Rangers, mostly inexperienced in shooting, are put together to face King Fisher. Since time is of the essence, the military training takes place during the long march.

After getting a little familiar with the art of shooting, McNelly soon manages to overpower a gang outpost. Two captured bandits are unceremoniously hanged because McNelly is unwilling to turn them over to justice. Dunnison, who is now McNelly's personal secretary and confidante, displeases all of this very much.

Encouraged by the first successful military action, McNelly decides to attack King Fisher's camp head-on. The attack becomes a fiasco, because you are outnumbered, so that the 18 remaining Texas Rangers have to withdraw. On a friendly farm they recruit new volunteers and soon follow King Fisher again to Mexico. McNelly no longer succeeds in catching Fisher in Texas, who feels safe in a fort in Mexico.

Fisher and his gang cheerfully celebrate their return to Mexico when the next morning the Texas Rangers storm the fort unexpectedly and defeat the gang. Fisher is killed and McNelly wounded, who then hands over command to Dunnison. This is the rebirth of the Texas Rangers.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films judged: “Stylish western with wild shootings and passable acting. The critical look is admittedly only advanced in order to let the gathering troop shine in heroic splendor. "
