Thomas Ziegler (born June 9, 1978 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who played for the ZSC Lions and SC Bern in the National League A between 1997 and 2012, among others . He also came to five NHL missions for the Tampa Bay Lightning .
Career
Thomas Ziegler began his career as an ice hockey player with the GCK Lions , for which he was active in the National League B from 1995 to 1998 . In the 1997/98 season he also played ten games for the ZSC Lions in the National League A , in which he remained pointless and goalless. In the summer of 1998, the attacker moved to HC Ambrì-Piotta , with whom he won the IIHF Continental Cup twice in a row in 1998 and 1999 and became Swiss runner-up in 1999. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the ninth round as a total of 263rd player by the Tampa Bay Lightning , for which he played five times in the National Hockey League in the 2000/01 season. However, he spent most of the season with their farm team , the Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League . Before the 2001/02 season , Ziegler returned to his home country, where he played for SC Bern . The winger won the Swiss championship for the first time in his career with the Bern team in 2004 . From the 2010/11 season he played again with the ZSC Lions and won another Swiss championship with them in 2012 before ending his career.
International
For Switzerland , Ziegler took part in the 1998 Junior World Championships as well as the A-World Championships in 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2004 , 2005 , 2008 and 2009 . Ziegler was also in the Swiss squad for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
