Stream, flora and general

The Tiefenbach arises on the edge of the forest in the Muldengewann Roschlesgrund about 2 km southwest of Billigheim -Sulzbach in the Neckar-Odenwald district . From the beginning and up to the mouth it flows in a southerly direction. It first passes the Assulzerhof, Selbacherhof and Gänslacherhof farms to the west, which belong to Allfeld , and adheres roughly to the eastern edge of the Kronwald, which extends on a ridge to the southwest as far as the Neckar valley . In the vicinity of the courtyards, the brook changes over to the district of Heilbronn and soon afterwards flows through Tiefenbach , a district of Gundelsheim .

Below Tiefenbach, the valley has already dug itself deeply, from now on there is forest on its slopes up to the mouth, sometimes also at the right height. At the Müssigmühle, the road connecting Tiefenbach and Höchstberg leaves the valley and leaves the lowest section up to the mouth in an idyllic state. The lower sections of the slope are mostly covered by huge wild garlic carpets in spring . In addition to the frequent, site-typical species, the broad-leaved stendellum and the white forest bird bloom on the slopes later in the year . Tuff springs emerge as a special feature on the slope . In these areas you can also find a special flora with water mint , brook bungee , marsh marigold , giant horsetail , water dost or bittersweet nightshade and other species. The forest goat's beard , which is rather rare in the lowlands, has a location in a side blade. On the last section of the valley there is a longer oak forest on the left slope, the mouth to the Jagsttal is then blocked by a small bar of near-natural alluvial forest . One of the probably most extensive stocks of the primeval-looking giant horsetail in northern Württemberg grows not far from the estuary at a spring on the Ilgenberg . From about 500 meters before the mouth of the Jagst, brown trout have also settled in part due to the floods and high water, as the brook is significantly wider and deeper in front of its mouth. The Tiefenbach crosses under the Jagsttalstraße at the Hammerschmiede and then flows into the Jagst opposite the northern outskirts of Untergriesheim .

The Tiefenbach measures about 9.7 kilometers in length, its above-ground catchment area has an area of 15.4 km². It is the last permanent water-bearing tributary of the Jagst, which passes the Untergriesheim gauge soon after the mouth.

Less than a kilometer above the mouth of the Tiefenbach, the Jagst flows into the Schefflenz , which with its tributaries limits its catchment area in the east. The western watershed of the Tiefenbach runs to the Neckar and its short tributaries; the Lohgraben, which flows into Gundelsheim, and the Anbach , which flows under the Gundelsheimer Michaelsberg, are the only larger ones. To the northwest of the Tiefenbach spring, the Elz strives to the southwest and through Mosbach to its Neckar estuary at Neckarelz .

Still waters

Half a kilometer south of Tiefenbach on the main road to Höchstberg there is a trout pond right next to the brook, which belongs to the Gundelsheim fishing association. However, the pond has no connection to the stream, but is fed by a spring from the surrounding hills.
