societies

From the first season of the Women's United Soccer Association in 2001, she played for Carolina Courage. After the first season only ended in last place, the second season went better. The team had strengthened itself with the German national player Birgit Prinz and the Norwegian Unni Lehn . Roberts, who was now team captain , first led her team to first place in the league round and the final of the Founders Cup II was won in the play-offs. In the following season - now without Birgit Prinz - only the penultimate place could be occupied. After the season the WUSA was discontinued for financial reasons. Roberts joined Washington Freedom in 2005 and played friendly games with the team against college and W-League teams.

National team

On March 16, 1994 Roberts made her international debut for the US national team in a 5-0 win against Portugal in the first edition of the Algarve Cup . She was from then on a regular player and was also used in the following 14 games, in which she scored five goals. She scored her first international goal in her third international match on April 10 in a 3-1 win against Trinidad & Tobago in a three-nation tournament. A year after her first international match, she was not used for the first time in the second group game of the Algarve Cup in 1995 , but was used again in the next 13 games, in which she was among other things the Norwegians with penalties in the game for 3rd place in the Algarve Cup documents. She was also part of the squad for the 1995 World Cup , but had to take a break in the third group game against Australia . In the quarter-finals against Japan and in the semi-finals against Norway she was used again, but lost to the Northern Europeans, who then succeeded the USA as world champions with a 2-0 win in the final against Germany . In the game for third place against China , she was substituted one minute before Mia Hamm scored the goal to make it 2-0.

Roberts was not used in only two games in 1996, but was mostly only substituted and was also part of the squad for the first women's Olympic soccer tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics , where it was used in all games. In the final in front of 76,489 spectators, she came on as a substitute three minutes after Tiffeny Milbrett scored the 2-1 winner against China.

From April 1997 to January 1998 there was the first long break of 15 games. During that time she played with the U-20 team and won the Nordic Cup in Denmark in August 1997 . In January 1998 she won the first four-nation tournament with the US girls in the People's Republic of China , but in March at the Algarve Cup in 1998 , she only reached 3rd place. From May 1998 to April 1999 there was another break from 19 games in which she finished second with the U-21 team at the Nordic Cup in the Netherlands in 1998 and in February 1999 played with the national team against a FIFA World Cup when the groups were drawn for the 1999 World Cup. The game is not counted as an official international match. She was nominated for the 1999 World Cup , but only played in the third group game against North Korea and in the quarter-finals against Germany . Her teammates then won the final against China on penalties , making them world champion. She was always used in the last five games of the year, but was substituted on four times. In 2000 and 2001 she was not used and so also missed the USA's first Algarve Cup title and the Olympic Games in Sydney . It was not reinstated until July 2002, when it became a regular again and was nominated for the 2002 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup . On June 14, 2003, she made her 100th international match against Ireland . It was then also taken into account for the 2003 World Cup . At the World Cup she was only used in two group matches. After the World Cup it was used in the next four games, followed by another break until the end of September 2004, where it was nominated for the Olympic Games in Athens , but not used. After the Olympic Games, she was substituted on again in three games. The game against New Zealand on October 3, 2004 was their last international match. In total, she came to 112 internationals of which 96 were won. She was in the starting line-up in 62 games and scored seven goals. The number was only set to 112 games in August 2016 after the US federation had come across two international matches held in January 1995 when reviewing its statistics, which had not been taken into account until then. In some statistics that have not yet been updated, it is therefore still listed with 110 international matches.
