Toni Weiler
Toni Weiler , real name Anton Weiler (born August 7, 1894 in Cologne , † January 30, 1970 in Bonn ) was a German opera singer with a baritone voice .
Live and act
Toni Weiler's talent for singing was discovered in his youth by concertmaster Wunderlich of the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra . The conductor Otto Klemperer recommended Weiler to train with Hermann Abendroth , the director of the Cologne Conservatory , where Weiler studied singing with Eduard Walter from 1919. He received a scholarship and became a master class student .
In 1922 Weiler made his stage debut at the Zurich Opera House as Ruggiero in The Jewess of Jacques Fromental Halévy . In 1923 he received an engagement at the Magdeburg Opera . In 1929 he was appointed chamber singer by the Magdeburg City Council. From 1934 to 1938 he was engaged at the Dortmund Opera . As an inaugural role, he sang the title role in the world premiere of the opera Münchhausen's Last Lie by Hansheinrich Dransmann . Weiler continued his career at the Hanover Opera and at the Detmold Festival. He has also made guest appearances at the Berlin State Opera and at the stages in Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Karlsruhe, Cologne, Osnabrück and Bonn.
From 1940 until the theater was closed due to the war (the theater was destroyed by bombing in August 1942, the performances then took place in the Mainz town hall until it was also destroyed in February 1945) Weiler was a permanent member of the Mainz Opera ensemble . After the war he gave his first concert in Hameln in July 1945 with the song cycle Dichterliebe by Robert Schumann . In 1946 Georg Hartmann engaged him at the Anhaltisches Landestheater Dessau . In 1951 and 1952 Weiler was professor for solo singing at the State University of Music in Halle . During his time in Dessau (1946–1952) Weiler sang all parts of the baritone subject. In 1952 he moved to West Germany. In the following years he continued to guest at various opera stages, including in Dessau and Cologne.
