The meeting of young authors (previously the meeting of young authors ) is the most important nationwide literary competition for young people and young adults aged 11 to 21. It has been held annually since 1986. In addition to the Young Music Scene Meeting and the Theatertreffen der Jugend, the competition is organized by the Berliner Festspiele on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . The meeting of young authors is part of the national competitions that aim to promote talented young people in Germany.

Course of the competition

All text forms, genres and types are permitted for application. An independent expert jury made up of authors ( Marcus Braun , Rabea Edel , Thomas Freyer , Kirsten Fuchs , Lütfiye Güzel , Sulaiman Masomi , Laura Naumann, Rudi Nuss and Daniela Seel ) usually selects 20 award winners. According to the homepage, the central selection criteria include "how creatively stories are told in the texts and how pictures are built or how mood and atmosphere are put into words."

The announcement phase of the competition starts in March and ends on June 15 of each year. It will be announced on the website of the Berliner Festspiele . The selection process is completed by the end of September.

Prices

The prize of the competition for the selected young authors is participation in the five-day meeting of young authors in Berlin. The focus of the meeting is the public reading of the award winners' texts in the Haus der Berliner Festspiele . As part of the preparation, the meeting offers the selected young authors an extensive supporting program with discussions, readings and workshops on prose, poetry, scenic writing, poetry slams and cross-genre writing experiments. They have the opportunity to reflect on their own and other texts and to exchange ideas about aspects of the writing process.

20 other applicants receive a book check .

At the end of the competition, all applicants will receive an anthology in which all of the winners' texts are published. This is available at the Berliner Festspiele or in stores.
