As Trumer lakes are three close together lying in the north of the province of Salzburg in District Salzburg- designated lakes located (Flachgau). These are the Obertrumer See , the Mattsee and the Grabensee . Several parts of the region are under nature protection .

Location and geology

Together with the area up to the Wallersee, the Trumer Lakes region forms a large part of the Salzburg Lake District . Although it is adjacent, it is not part of the Salzkammergut and drains via the Mattig to the Inn near Braunau . The Trumer Seen area includes the municipalities of Obertrum am See , Mattsee , Seeham and Berndorf bei Salzburg and, in a broader sense, the Upper Austrian municipalities of Perwang am Grabensee , Palting and Lochen am See , which border the lakes in the north. In terms of geography , one speaks there of the Südinnviertel Lake District .

The Trumer Lakes are part of a glacier end lake landscape that was formed by the Hallstatt Glacier and the Salzach Glacier and are located in the moraine zone in the Alpine foothills outside the Northern Alps .

Nature and landscape protection

The Trumer Lakes, including some extensive shorelines , are protected as the Trumer Seen Landscape Protection Area (LSG 60). The built-up areas around the lakes are excluded from this; only the hamlet of Zellhof is within the protected area.

The valuable riparian moors in the north of the Obertrumersee bordering on Grabesee and Mattsee and the narrower area around the Egelseen are also under nature protection and together form the Salzburg nature reserve Trumerseen  ( NSG 1 ) with an area of 413.89  hectares . It is the oldest in the state of Salzburg. In addition, the Trumer Moos on the south bank of the Obertrumersee was separately  placed under protection as a nature reserve Obertrumer See (NSG 13).

On the Upper Austrian side are the nature reserves Nordmoor am Grabensee  ( N106 ) and Nordmoor am Mattsee (N137), both of which belong to the European protected area complex of meadow areas and lakes in the Alpine foothills (FFH area, EU08 ).
