Established on March 1, 2003, the US Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ; English for Customs and Border Protection of the United States) is an agency in the division of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States based in Washington, DC ( Ronald Reagan Building ).

history

CBP was created on March 1, 2003 after the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), which was subordinate to the Justice Department , was dissolved. Parts of the INS, the US Border Patrol , the US Customs Service ( Treasury ), parts of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service ( Ministry of Agriculture ), in particular all border activities of the Agricultural Quarantine Inspection (including the Beagle Brigade) and the Plum Island Animal were involved Disease Center merged.

The CBP enforces over 400 laws from more than 40 federal agencies.

CBP A&M has 500 pilots and 250 aircraft. Helicopters of the types Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk, Eurocopter AStar AS 350D and aircraft of the types C-210, C-12 and Lockheed P-3 Orion (1 unit) with reconnaissance radar are used. The authority thus maintains the world's largest air fleet of a police or customs organization. The agency owns about 200 vessels of various types, the largest being the Midnight Interceptors class, 11.89 meters (39 feet) in length.
