Life

Ulrich Fox grew up in Warmia, first attended elementary school, continued his education in the People's Republic of Poland after 1945 and passed the Matura in Olsztyn in May 1956. He enrolled at the Technical University in Szczecin and studied engineering . In 1959, as part of the family reunification , he moved with his mother and siblings to the Federal Republic of Germany and arrived in Paderborn . Ulrich Fox continued his technical studies, which he had started in Poland, at the Technical University in Aachen until 1964 , married Ursula Suray in 1966 , continued his education and completed his habilitation after years in Münster, Westphalia .

His early interest was in local research in historical Warmia, especially in the Allenstein district . He was a member of the Historical Association for Warmia eV in Münster, the Association for Family Research in East and West Prussia and, in addition to technical books, published several relevant books and articles on local history research in Warmia.

For years he was a member of Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk eV in Freiburg . He and his wife developed a special commitment after retirement - they invited concentration camp and ghetto survivors from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus to Germany, looked after them during their stays and organized contemporary witness projects in schools to bring back the painful memories of the Nazi victims to pass on to young people. These encounters built visual bridges between the witnesses of the past and the young people as designers of the future.
