action

Shortly before Christmas , Wolfgang Wöller, Lord Mayor of the fictional Lower Bavarian city of Kaltenthal, receives an invitation from the Vatican . He asks Sister Hanna, the head of the local monastery , to accompany him. The two travel to Rome , where it turns out that Wöller is not invited to a private audience with the Pope , as assumed , but only to a major event in St. Peter's Basilica . Disappointed, both want to leave, but due to a general strike by the pilots, the return journey turns out to be extremely difficult. Meanwhile, the other nuns in Kaltenthal are preparing the annual children's Christmas party in the monastery, while Mother Superior Elisabeth Reuter has a surprising visit from her predecessor. This leaves no excuse not to spend this Christmas in Kaltenthal, and so the nuns in the monastery have to come up with something so that the superior does not find out that Sister Hanna went to Rome on her own initiative.

Mayor Wöller and his sister Hanna manage to borrow a car from an Italian priest after their first rental car from the hotel "gave up its ghost" prematurely. In addition, the heavily pregnant Laura Berger travels with them, who wants to visit the father of her child in Munich, who knows nothing about her pregnancy. Sister Hanna accompanies Laura to the house of the wealthy entrepreneur Gablonzer and notices how Laura is turned away there. So she takes them to the Kaltenthal Monastery without further ado. Since Hanna is not so easily satisfied with it, she drives back to Munich and speaks to Otto Gablonzer, the future grandfather. He is still dismissive and explains that his son is on a business trip. However, Hanna secretly gets the tip from the servant of the house that the young Mr. Gablonzer is still at the airport. On the spur of the moment, Hanna drives to the airfield and is able to convince Martin Gablonzer to come with her to the Kaltenthal monastery. The superior is just arriving there, and the Christmas party begins after Laura went into labor and Sister Felicitas is happy that they now have a real Christ Child for Christmas. When sister Hanna and Martin Gablonzer join them, the happy ending is perfect.

Reviews

“With a balanced mix of the many storylines, screenwriter Michael Baier and director Ulrich König succeeded in transforming the hit series into a handsome feature film. As usual, the charm of the whole thing is based on the well-timed arguments between the two main actors. A little too predictable, entertaining 90 minutes lead to an accumulation of happy endings that almost overwhelm the viewer in their abundance. But it won't really bother him. "

"Heart-warming highlight of the series."
