VT 1.0 / 1.5-ETCS (also: Trainguard ETCS Zug ) is the name of a diesel-powered ETCS measurement and presentation train from Siemens Transportation Systems . The vehicle carrier was removed from ongoing production by the Desiro family in March 2003 and is based on the class 642 multiple unit . It was rebuilt according to the requirements by the end of May 2003 and is operated on behalf of Siemens AG by the EVU Dispolok , but can be rented by interested companies and used throughout Europe.

Structure of the train

ETCS equipment

The VT 1.0 / 1.5-ETCS has the necessary facilities for operation on lines with ETCS Level 1 and ETCS Level 2 . For this purpose, ETCS vehicle computers - the so-called European Vital Computers (EVC) - of the type Trainguard 100 EVC for level 1 and Trainguard 200 EVC for level 2 are installed, which are housed in a switch cabinet behind the driver's cab . A so-called Juridical Recording Unit (JRU) of the Siemens type JR DSE 32 Messma is used as a kind of tachograph to record the actions of the engine driver . The information for signaling along the route receives the engineer via a machine interface human type DMI E2 Messma . In addition, the common communication devices for digital and analog train radio are on board the train .

An antenna of the type Antenna Unit S21 for reading out the ETCS balises located in the track area is attached to the underbody of the vehicle . In addition, the train has a distance pulse generator and two Doppler radar sensors for distance and speed measurement .

Interior decoration

The interior layout of the train only partially corresponds to that of the VT 642 . The train consists of two train parts that are firmly coupled to each other, connected with a bellows and mounted on a Jakobs bogie . One part of the train is run as a 1.0-ETCS wagon part, the other as a 1.5-ETCS wagon part. The two independent ETCS test facilities are located in the high-floor areas of the two parts.

In the vehicle part 1.0-ETCS, the equipment of the VT 642 has been largely replaced. Here, in the low-floor area, in place of the former multi-purpose compartment, there is a seating group with seven seats for conferences. This is equipped with a multimedia system consisting of speakers and a flat-screen monitor. A camera in each of the driver's cabs can be used to observe the train's movement on the monitor in the conference area. A laptop connection to the multimedia system is also possible. Next to the seating area is a toilet that is identical to that of the VT 642. In the high-floor area behind the driver's cab there is a tool cabinet , storage for the emergency coupling and switch cabinets.

Part 1.5-ETCS has four-person seating groups in the low-floor area, as is also available in the VT 642. A bistro with two bar tables and a counter with an integrated refrigerator was installed in the high-floor area . The control cabinets and an additional equipment cabinet are located between the bistro area and the driver's cab.

Areas of application

The main tasks of the VT 1.0 / 1.5-ETCS are to test the track and vehicle devices under real conditions. This includes measurements of the GSM-R network coverage, the transitions between different ETCS line control centers (so-called radio block centers , RBC) and the susceptibility of ETCS to interference. In addition, compliance with the required system parameters and the interoperability of several ETCS systems from different manufacturers are checked.

The train was originally developed as a test vehicle for the first ETCS route in Germany, the Berlin – Halle / Leipzig route, which is currently in trial operation . The train has been in service here since May 2003 for test drives and measurement runs.

From the end of February to mid-March 2005 there were trips in the Netherlands on the Steenwijk - Heerenveen and Maastricht - Heerlen routes . The purpose of the trips were attempts to interoperate several different ETCS systems. In June 2005, test drives took place on the Betuweroute , a route that is continuously equipped with ETCS Level 2 and without stationary signals.
