Vaglio is a former political municipality in the district of Capriasca , in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

The village is at 550 m above sea level. M. on the chestnut-covered ridge between the Val Cassarate and the small Lago d'Origlio; four kilometers northwest of the Taverne station on the Bellinzona - Lugano - Chiasso line of the Swiss Federal Railways .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1241 under the then name Valio, Vallio . The village had to provide 12 soldiers to the Duke of Milan in the first half of the 15th century .

Near the church of San Clemente (mentioned in the 12th century) you can see the remains of an old tower and the hamlet of Redde , which has disappeared and enjoyed a certain economic independence in 1335.

Community merger

On October 15, 2001, Vaglio merged with Campestro and the Odogno, Cagiallo , Lopagno , Roveredo Capriasca , Sala Capriasca and Tesserete fraction to form the new municipality of Capriasca .
