The VfR Neuss 06 (full name Association for Sport lawn of 1906 ) is a football club in Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia . VfR 06 Neuss is a member of the Niederrhein Football Association and plays in the Grevenbroich-Neuss district league in the 2019/20 season. The home games are played in the Jahnstadion Neuss-Mitte

history

In the post-war period, VfR Neuss experienced a sporting heyday, which in 1966 led him to the then second-class Regionalliga West . In 1948/49 the VfR won the championship of the district class and thus made it into the state league, the highest German amateur class at the time . In the 1960/61 season, the club won the championship in the Grevenbroich-Neuss regional league and thus promotion to the highest amateur class, the Niederrhein Association League . There the VfR team established itself for the next five years and won the Association League Championship under coach Willi Koll in the 1965/66 round . In the promotion round they prevailed against competitors Hammer SpVg , SSV Hagen and Bonner SC and had thus achieved promotion to the West Regional Football League. The newcomer from the stadium on Hammer Landstrasse took the vigor of the climb with him and, after notable victories, ended up in eighth place over VfL Bochum , Preußen Münster , Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Wuppertaler SV at the end of the round. The quick-reacting goalkeeper Klaus Schonz , cleaner Josef Kokesch and goal scorer Ulrich Kohn contributed significantly to this .

The season opening game of the 1967/68 round then went into the annals of VfR . Bundesliga relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf opened the regional round on August 13, 1967 in Neuss. At halftime it was in front of 13,500 spectators, befitting 1: 3 for the clearly favored Fortuna. In a great second half of the game, center forward Kohn scored the 5-4 winner for Neuss in the 77th minute. And VfR Neuss also won the second leg against rivals on the opposite side of the Rhine 2-1. With the new coach Manfred Krafft , Neuss was able to take ninth place in the Regionalliga West in 1969 and 1970, but the departures of players like Werner Tenbruck and Robert Begerau made themselves felt. In 1972 he was relegated to the Niederrhein Association, where they tried in vain to get promoted again. In 1978 VfR Neuss missed the qualification for the newly founded Oberliga Nordrhein and disappeared in the fourth division. Heavily indebted, the club commuted between the association and regional league in the following decades, followed by the fall into the district league in 2006.

The club was represented twice in the main round of the DFB Cup. In 1980/1981 VfR failed 7-2 at Rot-Weiss Essen and in 1976/1977 he lost 3-0 at Bremerhaven 93 . Another cup highlight was the second round of the West German Cup in 1961 , when VfR Neuss won 2-1 against their Rhenish rival Fortuna Düsseldorf. The club played its games in the stadium on Hammer Landstrasse from 1919; the wooden grandstand was built in 1923. After severe destruction in the Second World War, the VfR temporarily played its games in the Jahn Stadium in Neuss before they could return to Hammer Landstrasse in 1948. 1978 was expanded and there was a covered standing grandstand on the back straight.

At the end of the 1990s the VfR went into a tailspin, unrest in the environment and enormous financial problems almost led to the club disappearing from the scene. The bankruptcy could be averted at the last second. Sporty you fell down to the district league, where five long years played until 2009. promotion to the division succeeded. At the end of 2010, the association filed for bankruptcy again . As a result, the first team was withdrawn from playing in the regional league after 13 games. The club continued to play in the 2011/12 season in the Niederrhein district league; the bankruptcy proceedings were settled in September 2011. With only 9 points from 30 games and 18: 119 goals, VfR rose to the bottom of the table in the district league A at the end of the season.

In April 2013, the city of Neuss announced that it would close and tear down the stadium on Hammer Landstrasse on July 1, 2013. The sporting crash continued and ended in the district league C, where the club started a new beginning in the 2015/16 season without debt. In the 2017/18 season, VfR succeeded in a catch-up game on the 28th matchday on May 18, 2018 with a 9-0 win over TuS Hackenbroich III with 78 points and 174:30 goals, the direct promotion to the district league B.
