Vincenz Pieper

Vincenz Pieper (born July 16, 1903 in Münster ; † January 13, 1983, ibid.) Was a German painter and art educator . Since 1955 professor for free drawing and painting at the Technical University of Berlin he designed several church windows in the Rhineland , Westphalia and the Sauerland after World War II .

Life

Pieper grew up as the son of a state insurance officer in a large family in Meschede . Here, after finishing school, he began his three-year training as a painter and then received his first orders in the field of church art. He also worked as a backdrop painter for the then Catholic journeyman's association (now Kolping ).

He graduated from high school Laurentianum Arnsberg , then studied painting from 1923 to 1925 at the Knirr School and the School of Applied Arts in Munich under Richard Riemerschmid . Study stays in Paris and Berlin brought new impressions before he went to the art school in Maria Laach, the so-called Beuron School , from 1929 to 1933 . From 1935 he became a private student of Professor Hugo Troendle in Munich before he started working as a freelancer. He had his first studio in Münster. From July 1941 to February 1943 he was a soldier in World War II. After the war, on October 1, 1947, he was given the teaching position and head of the department for ornamental and figurative design at the Werkkunstschule in Münster . For the first time he taught the techniques of mosaic , glass painting and wall painting .

On March 1, 1955, he was appointed to the Technical University of Berlin as holder of the chair “Free Drawing and Painting” at the Faculty of Architecture, which he held until his retirement on October 1, 1969. The Aachen architecture professor and building researcher Jan Pieper is his son.
