Vitória do Jari , officially Município de Vitória do Jari , is a small town in the Brazilian state of Amapá in the Região Norte . It is located on the Rio Jari opposite the Porto de Munguba . The place is around 180 km from the capital Macapá . The population was estimated at 15,605 inhabitants on July 1, 2018. The inhabitants, who live on the approximately 2509 km² (2016) large area, are called Vitorenser (Portuguese vitorenses ). The population density in 2010 was 5 people per km². There is a kaolin mine north of the village .
geography
The landscape and biome are predominantly shaped by the Amazon rainforest . The place is on the left side of the Rio Jari. In the south, the municipality is bounded by the beginning of the Amazon delta. The climate is tropical according to the Köppen and Geiger Am / Af climate classification . The average temperature is 27.1 ° C. There is a lot of precipitation and few dry spells.
history
On September 8, 1994, the city was founded as an independent municipality by outsourcing from Laranjal do Jari . Economically, the area is part of the large-scale development and exploitation company known as the Jari Project .
In 2017, the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística changed the assignment to geostatistical regions and assigned the municipality to the Região geográfica imediata Laranjal do Jari and the Região geográfica intermediária Macapá .
City administration
Executive: In the local elections in 2016, Raimundo de Alcimar Ney de Souza, called Dielson , became city prefect (mayor) for the term from 2017 to 2020, who had run for the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT).
