The . Württembergische Engineer Battalion No. 13 was a pioneer - Battalion of the Württemberg Army or the German army . It was established as a sapper company on May 1, 1817 as part of a new military budget . Ludwigsburg was initially designated as the garrison . As early as 1817 a commando was sent to Ulm to take part in the land survey for the federal fortress still to be built . The battalion was disbanded at the end of the First World War in 1918. During the time of the German Empire , it was one of a total of 35 engineer battalions.
garrison
On August 8, 1857, a fortress pioneer company was set up. In September 1857 the engineer corps was transferred to the Ulm garrison, where it was housed in the Lower Danube Bastion . On December 18, 1872, as part of the reorganization of the German army, the designation "Württemberg Pioneer Battalion" was introduced and a 4th company was set up at the battalion. From 1888 the battalion received the designation "Königlich Württembergisches Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 13", in the lower Danube bastion (pioneer barracks) were the staff, 1st and 3rd companies and in the lower Gaisenberg bastion (Gaisenberg barracks) the 2nd and 3rd 4th company. The battalion was under the XIII. (Royal Württemberg) Army Corps . Ulm remained the location of the Württemberg pioneers until it was dissolved.
Campaigns
In the campaigns against Denmark in 1848 , a detachment of the pioneer corps and in 1866 against Prussia the entire pioneer corps took part in the union of the Württemberg troops. Under its commandant Major Löffler, the Ulm field pioneer corps with staff, pontoon company, entrenchment column and telegraph department went into the war against France from 1870–1871 . The fortress troops remained first as genius -Kompanie in Ulm and was in the course of the campaign to the siege of Belfort and the storming of Perouse used. The field pioneer corps took part in the battles near Wörth and Sedan as well as in the siege of Paris , apart from the pioneer missions during the advance . After the armistice, the pioneer corps prepared the parade ground near Villiers for the Württemberg, Bavarian and Saxon troops who were not involved in the entry into Paris. Kaiser Wilhelm I thanked the troops for their services.

The battalion's flags have been restored and have been in the guard room of Ludwigsburg Palace since 1967 .
march
The parade march by Carl Faust , composed in 1855, was the parade march of the battalion. It has been part of the Army March Collection (AM II, No. 126) of the German Bundeswehr since 1961 .

- Robert Bosch (born September 23, 1861 in Albeck , † March 12, 1942 in Stuttgart ), industrialist, 1881 to 1882 as a one-year volunteer in the battalion.
- Hermann Köhl , (born April 15, 1888 in Neu-Ulm , † October 7, 1938 in Munich ), aviator, 1914 as a flag squire in the battalion.
