The 1996 election to the United States House of Representatives took place on November 5, 1996 concurrently with the presidential election, in which Bill Clinton was re-elected for a second term. Clinton's Democratic Party won a total of eight seats from the Republican Party . The Republicans were able to maintain their majority in the House of Representatives. Newt Gingrich remained speaker .
