From 1883 to 1886 Eberbach trained as a draftsman and metal sculptor in Schwäbisch Gmünd , in 1887 he attended the Stuttgart School of Applied Arts . In the next few years he worked in Cologne , Strasbourg , London , Berlin and Frankfurt am Main .

From 1891 to 1899 he taught chasing and goldsmithing at the Municipal School of Applied Arts in Strasbourg. From 1899 until his retirement in 1933 he was an art teacher at the secondary school and at the trade school in Heilbronn . Eberbach, who had the title of professor , was repeatedly entrusted with the inspection of drawing lessons in Württemberg . He published several articles about art lessons, which appeared mainly in the trade paper from Württemberg , in Die Hilfe and in Der Schildlehrer .

Eberbach was a member of the Heilbronn Artists' Association and participated in numerous exhibitions at the Heilbronn Art Association . He gave several drawing courses in Heilbronn. Eberbach's son Wernher Eberbach (* 1897 in Strasbourg , † 1980 in Reichenbach an der Fils ) also became a sculptor.

Eberbach mainly created jewelry , devices made of precious metal , medals and grave sculptures. He also made book decorations and certificates of honor .

During his time in Strasbourg, Eberbach produced, among other things, the chains of honor ( chains of office ) designed by Anton Seder for the Strasbourg mayor (1891) and the rector of the University of Strasbourg (1898). A bronze medallion with Goethe's portrait on the Strasbourg house where he lived as a student also comes from Eberbach (1888).

Eberbach took on the artistic decoration of the Golden Book presented by the city of Heilbronn on September 24, 1909 . The book was donated in 1906 by the Heilbronn-based packaging manufacturer Landerer and printed by the local printer Carl Rembold; the introduction came from Rector Friedrich Dürr . It was destroyed in the air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944 .

Coat of arms of the Oberamt Heilbronn

Coat of arms of the Oberamt Heilbronn

In 1927, the official body of the Heilbronn Upper Office requested a proposal for a coat of arms from the Württemberg archives department . The archive management recommended a coat of arms which, as symbols for Neckar shipping and viticulture, should show a silver anchor in blue, each accompanied by a silver cup. The district council, however, rejected the two cups as an overly emphasized symbol of enjoyment. Instead, the Oberamt adopted a different coat of arms designed by Walther Eberbach in 1928, which remained in use until 1955 in the later district or district of Heilbronn . In a split shield with a lowered, curved tip, it showed a silver ear of wheat in front in black, behind in red a silver hammer turned to the left, below in gold a hanging blue grape; a blue anchor in the silver heart shield. The ear of wheat stood for agriculture, the hammer for industry and trade, the grape for viticulture and the anchor for shipping on the Neckar. From a heraldic point of view, this coat of arms was too overloaded, which is why it was replaced by another in 1955.
