Ward Szarzynski (born June 18, 1974 in Turnhout ) is a former Belgian ice hockey player who played a large part of his career with the White Caps Turnhout in the Belgian first division . His twin brother Sjef was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Ward Szarzynski began his career in the neighboring Netherlands, where he first played for the Eindhoven Kemphanen in the Ehrendivision . At the turn of the year 1994/95 he moved to league competitor Dordrecht Lions , but returned to the gamecocks after a year and a half. In 1998 he returned to Belgium and played for the Phantoms Deurne , with whom he also played in the Netherlands. After spending the 1999/2000 season in the Belgian honorary division with the Griffoens Geel , he went back to the Phantoms Deurne, with whom he became Belgian champions in 2001 and 2003 . In 2001 and 2002 he won the cup competition with the Antwerp District Club . In 2004 he moved to his hometown, where he played for the White Caps Turnhout until the end of his career and again won the Belgian title in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011. From 2010 to 2012 he and his team also took part in the Dutch-Belgian North Sea Cup .

International

For Belgium, Szarzynski took part in the junior division of the U18-C European Championship in 1992 .

With the men's national team , Szarczynski initially took part in the C2 World Championships in 1994 and 1995 and the D World Championships in 1996 , 1997 , 1998 , 1999 and 2000 . After switching to the current division system, he played at the World Championships of Division II in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2010 . At the 2004 World Cup he played with the Belgians in Division I.
