St. Margareta in Wattenberg

Wattenberg is a district of the town of Berching in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate .

geography

The hamlet is located in the Franconian Alb on a striking plateau between the valleys of the Sulz to the west and the lower citizens of Laber to the east . The closest larger city is Neumarkt , twelve kilometers north.

history

The fertile valleys of the area were already settled in the Urnfield period, as some reading finds show. The local history of Wattenberg goes back to the Middle Ages. In the 17th century, a new church could be afforded, which reshaped a previous building that was probably damaged in the Thirty Years War , which indicates some prosperity.

The Bavarian original cadastre shows Wattenberg in the 1810s with six hearths, the church and stately farm areas in the midst of extensive forest areas.

On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Wattenberg was incorporated with Hennenberg and Roßthal .

St. Margareta

St. Margareta is a branch church of the parish Waltersberg in the deanery Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . It is a Gothic hall church with a choir tower. The church was rebuilt in the 17th century. Underneath are the traces of previous buildings or older construction phases.
