history

Waltersberg owned his own noble family, called the "Waltersberger". The ancestors were the lords of Stein. The castle once stood behind the church and was called the "Steinerhaus". Walter von Stein added the syllable "berg" to his first name and called himself Waltersberg from then on. After him the property came to the Hohenfelsers through inheritance . Then the Gundelfinger followed, but they combined the property with their property in Holnstein and scattered the rest of the property.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Waltersberg was incorporated into the community of Deining.

St. Leonhard Church

The baroque parish church, which was under the patronage of St. Leonhard , was built in 1758/59, consecrated on October 5, 1781 by the Eichstätter Bishop Johann Anton III. Baron von Zehmen. The nave measures 15 by 11 meters. The choir consists of a yoke and a three-sided end. The tower with the sacristy is located south of the choir. On the ceiling of the nave is a fresco of the resurrection, in a simple stucco frame, which unfortunately has been spoiled by restoration. In the spandrels are stuccoed Rococo ornaments with vases and small frescoes related to St. Leonhard. On the west gallery there are frescoes from the life of St. Leonhard. The high altar on six columns, crowned by God the Father on the globe, which is carried by angels. Below the figures of St. Margaretha, Nicholas, Hippolitus and Michael. The altar was made by Ulrich Wiest from Neumarkt for 355 guilders , as were the side altars and confessionals for a total of 330 guilders. The bells come from the workshop of Gabriel Reinburg in Amberg , 1733. The organ was created in 1884 by the famous master organ builder Bittner from Nuremberg. In front of the entrance there is a soul chapel, inside a painted stone figure of the merciful Christ, around 1400.
