history

Tauernfeld was first mentioned in a document in 750. The "series parochorum" (list of pastors) of the parish of Tauernfeld begins in 1315. In 1335 Volkhold von Thann sold his farm in Tauernfeld to the Seligenporten monastery . In 1480 Tauernfeld was its own parish and belonged to the German Order . The Reformation was introduced in the place in 1542. The council of the city of Neumarkt received the right to appoint a parish in 1582. The teacher at the Latin school in Neumarkt, Count Abraham von Lichtenstein, became pastor in Tauernfeld in 1570. In 1625 the Catholic religion was reintroduced. In the Thirty Years' War in 1627 the church windows were destroyed, the walls perforated and the church robbed. The parish of Tauernfeld was dissolved in 1629 and assigned to the parish of Deining along with Leutenbach and Winnberg. In 1671 Tauernfeld only had 20 houses, 21 families and 124 residents. The sacristan's house was rebuilt in 1682. The Hofkastner von Neumarkt sold the school and sacristan's house in 1693, although the priest in charge protested that, in his opinion, the buildings belonged to the church.

In 1760, Duke Max Joseph approved the casting of a new bell. Extensive renovation and repair work was carried out on the church in 1779, and in 1791 two side altars (St. Joseph and St. Anna) were rebuilt for the church. In 1795, almost all of Tauernfeld burned down in a fire that broke out in the Schmidbauer's stable. In 1847 the school and sacristan's house was rebuilt next to the church. The church in Tauernfeld received a new tabernacle in 1866. In 1875 the church was restored and the main altar and side altars were redesigned by the painter Georg Lang , Deining. At that time, 120 people lived in 23 houses in Tauernfeld.

In 1913 a water pipe and an elevated tank with 54 m³ were built. The electric light came to Tauernfeld in 1923. Since the towns could not agree on a common location, a schoolhouse was built in Tauernfeld in 1928. In 1939 an organ was purchased from Bittner, and in 1952 the church was completely renovated both inside and out. The elementary school had to be closed in 1953 due to insufficient student numbers. Land consolidation began in 1959. In 1960 the morgue was built and inaugurated. An electric bell machine was purchased in 1961. In 1963 the village chapel was demolished and rebuilt, inaugurated in 1965. The village streets were paved during this time. The community acquired the first school bus in the Neumarkt district in 1966, and in 1969 it joined the Sengenthal Group's water association . The church was thoroughly renovated again in 1972. On January 1, 1978, the community of Leutenbach , to which Tauernfeld belonged, was dissolved and incorporated into the community of Deining. The association for horticulture and homeland maintenance was founded in 1985, an association for the preservation of rural agriculture and culture in 1998. In 1990, Pastor W. Brems consecrated the new bells for the branch church. The former milk house was converted into a fire station in 1992. In 2000 the construction of a village hall began, which was completed in 2001 and inaugurated by Pastor Höfler.

St. Nicholas Church

St. Nikolaus Tauernfeld

The church is a Gothic complex that was largely redesigned in the 18th century. It is located at the lower edge of the village in a wall with a wide pointed arch access, probably from the 16th century. The Gothic choir tower was redesigned in the early 18th century. Now the tower appears with a double onion cap . Inside the church was restored in 1971/72, outside in 1978. The nave spans a flat ceiling, next to it the ceiling in the square choir is worked out with banded stucco.

Equipment: Altars and pulpit with elegant rocaille ornamentation, mid-18th century. High altar: Moving structure with columns and volute pilasters, altarpiece by Georg Lang , Deining 1875, concave volute pilaster retable with paintings: St. Joseph, right St. Family, probably also by Lang, in a richly carved double frame. On the cafeteria of the left side altar there is a small canvas picture (St. Anthony ) in a rococo frame with a base. On the left wall of the nave there is a figure of the Madonna of the Crescent Moon from the first half of the 18th century, opposite a crucifixion scene and Mater Dolorosa, also from the middle of the 18th century.
