Siegenhofen

Siegenhofen belongs to the municipality of Deining in the Upper Palatinate district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

geography

Siegenhofen is located southeast of the district town of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate on the road to the A3 and towards Velburg .

Place name

The name of the place is said to go back to a farm owner named Sigo. The spellings Sygenhoven, Sugenhouen and Sigenhofen have been handed down; the ending -hofen indicates an origin in the 7th to 9th centuries AD. Not every mention of the name Siegenhofen in old documents refers to this place. As a rule, these mentions refer to Siegenhofen an der Naab near Schwandorf . From 1326, a distinction was made between Siegenhofen an der Naab and Vils-Siegenhofen or Siegenhofen in the Amberg district .

history

The Kastl monastery received four farms in Siegenhofen as fiefdoms in 1367. In 1480 there was an independent parish (St. Pankratius) in Siegenhofen. In the course of the Landshut War of Succession , Siegenhofen was looted in 1505. In 1634 several buildings were burned down by the Swedes. 124 inhabitants are recorded for 1671, who came from 21 families and lived in 19 houses.

Siegenhofen used to belong to the community of Unterbuchfeld. From 1790 the children from Siegenhofen and the surrounding area were taught separately after they had previously attended the school in Deining. A new school and sacristan's house for Siegenhofen, Oberbuchfeld, Arzthofen and Tannbügl was inaugurated in 1840. The schoolhouse was soon too small again; After 87 children had to share a classroom in 1862, an extension was planned. In 1889 the house was extended and renovated. In 1969 the Siegenhofen School was dissolved in favor of the Deining School Association.

Church of St. Pankratius

Church of St. Pankratius

The inventory of the church for 1559 includes a gilded silver beaker, six pewter candlesticks, a brass monstrance and five vestments. After looting, the church was in disrepair in 1627; the sacristy was destroyed and the inventory stolen. It was rebuilt in 1780. The re-inauguration was carried out on October 3, 1781 by Auxiliary Bishop Felix von Stubenberg from Eichstätt . In 1863, however, there was apparently no more parish in Siegenhofen and a re-establishment was rejected. In 1935 the parish church of St. Pankratius was demolished and replaced by a new building. This was consecrated in 1936 by Bishop Michael Rackl . In 1953 it received a new side altar, in 1966 a new roof and in 1969 the interior was restored.

The church has a three-part peal (as '- b' - des "). Two of the bells were cast by Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling in 1958. The b'-bell is likely from the baroque period and was cast by Kleeblatt in Amberg.

Famous pepole

The canon Jakob Siegenhofer was named after Siegenhofen near Deining. He lived in Neumarkt from 1520 to 1524 and from 1533 to 1537 was the prince-elector of Heidelberg and pastor of Lengenfeld and the city of Kemnath.

The clergyman and dean, HH Franz-Xaver Obeltshauser, who carried out historical research and was an honorary citizen of Spalt , was born in Siegenhofen.
