Großalfalterbach is a district of the municipality of Deining in the Upper Palatinate district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . The parish village is located in the south-eastern part of the municipality of Deining on a Jura plateau.

history

Werner von Prunn founded a church in 1054, which was consecrated in 1063 by Gundekar II , Bishop of Eichstätt. The place is mentioned in a document in 1157, in which an Altmann von Affalterbach is mentioned as a witness in a deed of donation to the Plankstetten monastery . In 1281 Heinrich von Pollanten handed over the patronage rights to Affalterbach with the approval of the Count Palatine Ludwig to the monastery Ahausen an der Wörnitz im Ries . When in 1287 there was no more income from these properties due to the assignment of the tithe to the above monastery, the Lords of Pollanten sold the property to all interested parties, e.g. B. to the Schweppermanns, Hofer, Frickenhofer, Hadmer von Laaber, Reichertshofer and Ittlhofer. In 1288 the place burned down partially. The place was partially devastated in 1292 by the troops of Ludwig the Strong in his war with the Hirschberg Count.

In 1348 the church separation of Groß- and Kleinalfalterbach took place, the latter is assigned to the parish of Deining. In 1540 the Reformation was introduced in Großalfalterbach, the neighboring town of Batzhausen became Protestant in 1544 and in 1548 the Catholic priest Prisel was chased away by the Lutheran elector. A Lutheran pastor, Georg Bauer, came to Großalfalterbach and in 1567 everyone had to convert to Calvinism . When in 1577 the Calvinist Elector Friedrich III. died, everything became Lutheran again, but again Calvinist in 1583. Since the pastor of Deining did not take part, Kleinalfalterbach was taken away from him and returned to the Calvinist pastor Kemnitius von Großalfalterbach. In 1625 everyone became Catholic again, Kleinalfalterbach came back to Deining.

In 1627 the Affalterbach church included the Pirkach, Waltersberg, Wattenberg and Hennenberg branches. In 1629 Wattenberg and Hennenberg were again separated from Großalfalterbach. In April 1632 the Swedes came. The front against Tilly's army ran along the Neumarkt - Beilngries - Ingolstadt line. In June the troops of Wallensteins came . In 1633 the Swedes plundered again, in September and October the Bavarians did not do better and in December the Swedes came again. In 1634 the fighting raged directly in the village. Almost everything was ruined and burned down. The residents perished or were able to flee. In 1637 Pastor Christopf Mack counted only 200 communicants in 18 towns. 20 souls still lived in Großalfalterbach.

In 1746 Johann Lösch from Hollfeld was commissioned to rebuild the church, which was then built from 1750. In 1811 the place belonged to the Neumarkt district court, the Holnstein patrimonial court , and houses 19 and 27 belonged to the suzerainty of Sulzbürg. The parish included Pirkach, Kleinalfalterbach and the hamlet of Sallmannsdorf. The church was consecrated on October 13, 1833. In 1864, 384 people lived in Großalfalterbach. A new schoolhouse was built in 1891 in the middle of the village, financed by the school community and not, as usual, by the church property, a building including a barn and stables for cattle, pigs and poultry, surrounded by a vegetable and orchard. In 1926 Großalfalterbach was assigned to the Neumarkt district office, previously Beilngries .

On March 25, 1954, the farmer Rudolf Götz became mayor of Großalfalterbach as the youngest candidate in the Neumarkt district. He carried out the office until the incorporation in 1978 into the large municipality of Deining. In 1970 the school was closed and the children went to the association school in Deining. On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Großalfalterbach was dissolved in the course of the regional reform and incorporated into the municipality of Deining. It consisted of the main town Großfalterbach, the village Pirkach and the hamlet Körndlhof . In 1983 the house numbers that had existed for centuries were abolished in Großalfalterbach and street names were introduced. The church painter Geitner from Prönsdorf colored the wooden case of the organ and pipes in a new marbled style. 2001 At the end of March, Stratebau started the biggest renovation in the history of Großalfalterbach. The new construction of the sewage system, replacement of the complete water network and construction of all roads in the village were carried out. The work was completed after about 1.5 years in September 2002. 2002 In June the newly planned village square was realized.

Großalfalterbach: Church of St. Vitus

Village fountain

It was dug in 1865 with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a depth of 20 meters. This pump well provided very good drinking water. The inside of the fountain was lined, stood in the middle of the village, near the school building and was surrounded by a frame for protection. A flood channel ran around it to prevent rainwater from entering.

A previous building was consecrated in 1063 by Bishop Gundekar II . The existing building, including a medieval choir tower, was not built until 1750 by Johann Lösch from Neumarkt. The nave consists of a hall building facing north with a retracted choir closed on three sides. The former choir tower on the east side of the nave, with an octogenic tower and a double onion hood . Its ground floor, which is now used as a sacristy, has rough beveled cross ribs, probably late Gothic. Inside, arched barrel vault with cranked entablature pieces. Equipment: The middle high altar was purchased by an artist from Berngau in 1752. Column retable with side figures of Saints Willibald and Walburga . The altarpiece shows St. Vitus. The side altars with band and tassel carvings are designed in a similar way, on the left figures of the Crescent Madonna and St. Anna and Joseph. On the right side figures and altar sheet of St. Sebastian von Scheidemandel 1949. The stucco pulpit with banding was built in 1750. On the left aisle wall is a memorial plaque for Pastor Willibald Holzhammer, (died 1776) the builder of the church.
