geography

Rothenfels is the northernmost part of the municipality and is located on the edge of a forest just a few hundred meters from Oberbuchfeld .

history

  • The eponymous family von Rothenfels, probably originally Reichsministeriale der Staufer, can be traced back to the male line from 1227 to 1360. At the beginning of the 14th century, the third generation brothers, Heinrich, Hermann, Konrad and Braun von Rothenfels, divided the castle. Heinrich III, who apparently got into economic hardship. In 1331 transferred his third in return for an annuity to Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria as a fief. The family was able to buy back this share as a fief, but soon came to the edge of their existence. The result was the sale of part of their ancestral castle and rule shortly before 1350 to Albrecht von Wolfstein. After the death of Fritz von Rothenfels in 1360/68, his stepbrothers Heinrich and Friedrich Volkolt von Tann sold the other part to the brothers Heinrich and Wilhelm Loterbeck.
  • In 1360 Albrecht von Wolfstein sold his part to the Marquard the Loterbecken. Also in 1360, Fritz von Rothenfels and Heinz Volkolt von Thann received the two parts from Ludwig the Brandenburger as a fief that he had previously owned. In a document dated July 6, 1360, they also promised to buy back the third part from the Wolfsteiners. But the Loterbecken kept the Wolfstein legacy until the beginning of the 15th century. [1]
  • In 1376 Hans Kellner became Rothenfels and afterwards Hans Loterbeck and his cousin Wilhelm were mentioned as owners.
  • 1399 an Erhart of Loterbeck is mentioned as the owner.
  • The feud between Hans Loterbeck, long-time district judge of the county of Hirschberg, with Hans Stauffer von Ehrenfels, in which Margrave Friedrich von Brandenburg intervened in 1424 and besieged the fortress Rothenfels at the beginning of October, was fateful for the family. Hans and his son Wilhelm had to swear peace in Schwabach on October 8, 1424 and waive all claims from this siege.
  • In 1426 the brothers Lorenz and Friedrich von Wolfstein bought Rothenfels Castle. (When the Wolfsteiners contested their property, they complained to the Count Palatine Johann in 1427 that they had bought the festival with all its accessories. ??)
  • In 1446 the castle became the property of Wolfgang and Gottfried von Sulzbürg, then to Rudolph Alber, Chancellor of the Mayor's Office in Neumarkt.
  • 1467 awarded King Friedrich III. to Rudolph Alber and his heirs the court "at his castle Rotenfels".
  • 1470 Rudolph Alber sold Rothenfels to the Countess Anna von Meißen.
  • In 1481 she sold with the consent of her husband Heinrich the Elder, Count zu Hartenstein and Herr zu Plauen, to the Franconian knight Heinrich von Lüchau zu Brunn, bailiff at Colmberg,
  • 1486 at Rothenfels Castle with accessories due to the marriage contract between his grandson Jos von Lüchau and the daughter of Erasmus Truchseß von Baldersheim (near Aub / Lower Franconia) to them.
  • In 1491 Erasmus Truchseß von Baldersheim had a Salbuch created , according to which Rothenfels Castle included properties in Oberbuchfeld , Unterbuchfeld , Deining , Siegenhofen , Pelchenhofen, Kadenzhofen, Arzthofen and Tauernfeld .
  • Since 1494 there have been increasing indications that Erasmus Truchseß von Baldersheim and his wife Margareth were in debt, which led to the first sales in Hagenhofen (1496), Rothenfels (1499/1502) and Pelchenhofen (1504).
  • 1504 During the Landshut War of Succession , the castle like the one in Deining must have been destroyed and razed. Only the estate (castle) remained.
  • 1511–1530 Philips Truchseß zu Rotenfels was one of the Upper Palatinate Landsassen and sold the Katzenbühl wood to the Deiningen early mass with his family.
  • In 1512 Martin Truchseß was named as the owner of Gut Rothenfels.
  • In 1534, Philipp, Truchseß von Baldersheim sold the palace with the consent of his siblings with all of the properties to Elector Ludwig and Count Palatine Friedrich for 800 guilders.
  • At that time, the estate still included 4 farms in Rothenfels, a farm, forest and meadows in Siegenhofen, a meadow at Arzthofen, and 12 wooded areas with 1000 acres and cheese from the villages of Tauernfeld, Oberbuchfeld and Siegenhofen.
  • From then on, the property was under the Neumarkt Rent Office. The Ittelhofer zu Deining received the feudal lordship. (Source ?)
  • In 1541, Count Palatine Friedrich allowed Georg Burkarter, a merchant from Neumarkt, and his descendants to rebuild Rothenfels Castle.
  • In 1543 the guardians of the children of Philipp Truchsess von Baldersheim bought Georg Stiegler, a citizen of Neumarkt, Zinsen and Gülten from their farm in Waltersdorf, 4 estates with a farm in Deining, from an estate in Mittersthal and a field as the last former accessories of the castle estate sold to Siegenhofen.
  • 1634: The Swedes burned down the churches in Deining and Winnberg. In Siegenhofen, Mittersthal and Leutenbach , too , many houses were burning, as was Rothenfels Castle. This was the end of the manor, today only part of the moat can be seen in the forest.

Rothenfels belonged to the municipality of Oberbuchfeld and was incorporated into the municipality of Deining on January 1, 1976.
