Holnstein is a district of the Upper Palatinate town of Berching .

The parish has its own kindergarten, elementary school and a branch of the Raiffeisenbank Neumarkt idOPf. and a gas station. The Regens-Wagner-Stiftung Holnstein is known nationwide. The White Laber flows through the village .

history

The name is derived from Hohler Stein or Höhlenstein. In the middle of the village there is a 20 meter high tuff stone cave . The Holnstein Castle was mentioned in 1100 for the first time. The owners were the Sulzbach Truchsessen. Gottfried Dapifer is mentioned as the first owner around 1167. In the Middle Ages, the castle then belonged to the Counts of Hirschberg .

In 1880 the castle was acquired by the Dillinger Franciscan Sisters and converted into an institution for the disabled. It was inaugurated on April 26, 1881 by the Eichstatt Bishop Franz Leopold von Leonrod . In 1893 the church of St. George was extended. In 1929 a house chapel was built in the facility for the disabled.

On May 1, 1978 Holnstein with its districts Butzenberg , Rudersdorf (both connected with Holnstein) and Altmannsberg , which was incorporated into Holnstein on January 1, 1972, was incorporated into Berching. In 1983 the village was connected to the water supply of the Ittelhofen group.

In 1993 the nuns left the Regens Wagner Foundation in Holnstein.
