Dinhard is a municipality in the Winterthur district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

geography

The community consists of different localities: Eschlikon, Welsikon, Vorder-Grüt, Ausser-Dinhard, Riedmühle, Kirch-Dinhard and Längerenrüti.

69.8% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 19.7% is covered with forest, 3.9% is traffic area and 6.2% is settlement area, 0.4% is water.

In 1934 the village of Sulz was separated from Dinhard and assigned to the municipality of Rickenbach ZH .

In 1943 an urn from the Hallstatt period was recovered from a burial mound near the Riedmühle . It is the oldest evidence of human presence in Dinhard.

Dinhard was first mentioned in a document as Thynhart in 1275. The important humanist Jakob Wiesendanger, called Ceporinus (1499–1525), who is commemorated by a memorial stone by the church, came from Dinhard .

In the National Council elections in 2019, the voting shares in Dinhard were: SVP 44.72%, glp 12.16%, Greens 10.59%, FDP 10.50%, SP 8.97%, EVP 3.36%, EDU 3.20 %, CVP 2.98%, and BDP 2.33%.

Peter Matzinger has been mayor since 2002 (as of May 2020).
