Werner Klein (born June 22, 1928 in Nickenich ; † April 12, 1985 in Meran , South Tyrol ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1971 until his death he was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate and from 1979 to 1983 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

Life

After graduating from primary school in Nickenich, Klein attended the commercial school in Andernach from 1942 to 1944 . He then volunteered at the cadastral administration in Koblenz before he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service in 1945 . He was most recently taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in October 1945. The following month he got a job with the unified union for Andernach and the surrounding area. From the beginning of the 1950s he worked as a union secretary for labor and social law at IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik . From 1953 to 1961 he was executive chairman of the DGB for the Ahrweiler and Mayen districts. Most recently he was a member of the ÖTV .

Klein joined the SPD in 1946 and held numerous functions in the party during his career as a local and state politician. Among other things, he was chairman of the SPD city association of Andernach, chairman of the SPD district association Mayen-Koblenz, deputy chairman of the SPD district of Rhineland / Hessen-Nassau and a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate . He also took part in the founding of the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics (SGK), of which he acted as deputy state chairman in Rhineland-Palatinate.

From 1956 to 1979, Klein was a member of the Mayen-Koblenz district council (until 1970: Mayen ) and was a member of the Andernach city council from 1958 to 1961. From 1961 to 1965 he was full-time mayor of the city of Weißenthurm and then until 1975 first mayor of the city of Andernach.

In the state elections in 1971 , 1975 , 1979 and 1983 Klein was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. In parliament he was deputy chairman of the budget and finance committee from 1971 to 1975, of which he was a member until his death in 1985. From 1971 to 1979 he was a member of the Interior Committee, from 1975 as deputy chairman. Other parliamentary functions included: member of the interim committee (1971–1985), member of the auditing commission (1971–1975), member of the legal committee and the parliamentary control commission (1979–1983) and member of the G 10 commission (1979–1985). In addition, from 1983 he was chairman of the Economic and Transport Committee. From 1978 to 1979 Klein was parliamentary managing director of the SPD parliamentary group and then from May 1979 to May 1983 its chairman .

In 1979 he was sent to the 7th and 1984 to the 8th Federal Assembly to elect the Federal President.

Klein had been chairman of the Middle Rhine Regional Gymnastics Association since 1970 . He was a member of the board of the Mittelrhein planning community, was a member of the administrative boards of the Kreissparkasse Mayen and the Mayen employment office, a member of the board of the AOK Mayen and a member of the board of the non-profit building association Andernach. He was also a member of the University Board of Trustees at Mainz University .

Werner Klein died unexpectedly in 1985 during a spa stay in Merano, Italy. He was buried in Andernach. Hans Seichter took over the state parliament mandate as a successor.
