The west bank of the Einfelder See is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein city ​​of Neumünster .

The approximately 13 hectare nature reserve is registered under number 50 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled at the end of 1987 (date of regulation: November 12, 1987). The 2.41 hectare nature reserve “Vogelschutzgebiet am Einfelder See”, which was designated at the beginning of 1955, was incorporated into it. The nature reserve is completely from the conservation area surrounded "suburbs Neumünster". It is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein regional association of the German Nature Conservation Union . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the city of Neumünster.

The nature reserve is located north of the Einfeld district of Neumünster on the west bank of Lake Einfeld . It places the near-natural shore landscape in this area with silting zones and open water areas in front of them under protection. The nature reserve goes back to the "Vogelschutzgebiet am Einfelder See", which comprised a small thickening of willow with a reed zone as a protection zone for birds on the banks of the Einfelder See. The area worthy of protection increased due to the increasing siltation of the lake. The nature reserve was finally enlarged accordingly and the protection goal was extended to safeguard the shore landscape.

The nature reserve is characterized by a quarry forest with oaks, alders, ash trees, buckthorns and willows, whereby gray willow and black alder are the predominant species, as well as a reed zone in front of this. Marsh marigold and marsh sword lily grow along the edge of the swamp forest . In the upstream of the reed zone silting zone move water cress , skullcap , marsh cinquefoil , Galium palustre , Nodding tooth , swamp hair strand , water mint , Gifthahnenfuß , marsh thistle , blood and Lysimachia and Myosotis scorpioides to which the lake is a large sedge Ried u. a. with slender sedge , bank sedge and stiff sedge , knotty hedgehog , common water dost , frog spoon , broad-leaved Merk , swamp sword lily and reeds . The bank and siltation zone is closed to the lake by a reed belt with reeds, broad-leaved cattails and a marsh ledge in front of this reed belt. A sandy-gravelly bank area in the nature reserve is occupied by rush and sedge communities. Extensive groups of floating leaves of white water lily , yellow pond rose and water knotweed settle in quiet indentations .

The nature reserve is also home to a diverse fauna. So here are u. a. Various bat species , hedgehogs , wood shrews , water vole and other small rodent species can be found. Also common frog , toad , newt and grass snakes are native, as well as in some dry areas the forest lizard . The nature reserve also offers a suitable habitat for numerous dragonfly species .

The area of ​​the quarry forest on the shores of Lake Einfeld is home to around 25 breeding bird species, including the sparrowhawk , robin , wren , blackcap , dunnock , fitis and chiffchaff . In winter, alder and black siskins , treecreepers and tailed titmouse can be found as guest birds . The reed and reed zones are habitat u. a. of marsh harrier , coot and pond rail , great crested grebe , pond warbler and reed bunting , all of which also breed here. Occasionally little grebes and pochard also breed in the nature reserve.

A path runs west of the nature reserve, which is part of the approximately eight kilometer long circular hiking trail around the lake. The nature reserve is part of the "Einfelder Seepunkte", which are distributed along the circular hiking trail around the lake. Mainly agricultural areas are attached to the nature reserve . In the southwest the nature reserve borders on the remains of the Margarethenschanze , a former hill fort .
