Wilhelm von Pückler-Groditz
Wilhelm Erdmann Karl August Graf von Pückler-Groditz (born February 17, 1790 in Schweidnitz , † March 21, 1859 in Freienwalde (Oder) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .
Life
origin
Wilhelm was a son of the Prussian Prime Lieutenant and Herr auf Gimmel Friedrich Johann Ludwig Erdmann von Pückler (born January 26, 1756 - † November 11, 1806) and his wife Auguste Christiane Charlotte, born von Erlach (* November 7, 1767, † 22. February 1817). She was a daughter of General Friedrich August von Erlach . The later Prussian lieutenant general Friedrich Wilhelm August Erdmann (1786–1856) was his older brother.
Military career
Pückler attended the Knight Academy in Liegnitz and joined the Infantry Regiment "von Grawert" of the Prussian Army on November 6, 1803 as portepeef ensign . During the Fourth Coalition War Pückler fought in the Battle of Jena and retreated to Magdeburg, where he was made inactive after the fortress surrendered .
After the Peace of Tilsit he was re-employed on August 9, 1807 as Second Lieutenant in the Regiment of the Guard . By August 1813, Pückler was promoted to staff captain with a patent from June 18, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Kulm and Leipzig . For Paris , Pückler was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class and the Iron Cross II Class. He was also awarded the Order of St. John on June 3, 1814 .
On April 12, 1815 he was promoted to captain and company commander . This was followed by a position as a major in the 27th Infantry Regiment from December 24, 1817 . On March 30, 1824 he was there battalion commander and in 1829 was awarded the service cross . On March 30, 1834 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1826 to colonel . On March 30, 1837, Pückler was initially assigned to lead the 9th Infantry Regiment and on January 14, 1838 he was appointed regiment commander. In this capacity he was awarded the Order of St. Anne II on June 3, 1838 . On March 25, 1841, he was transferred to the 4th Infantry Brigade as commander and on April 15, 1841, he was aggregated to the 9th Infantry Regiment . On April 7, 1842 he was promoted to major general . On August 8, 1848, Pückler took his leave with the statutory pension . On October 12, 1849, he was given the character of Lieutenant General and on January 5, 1856, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with star and oak leaves. He died on March 21, 1859 in Freienwalde (Oder).
family
Pückler married Ulrike Karoline von Broscovius (1797–1849) in Potsdam on May 5, 1817. After her death, he married Johanna Lange (* 1816) on December 9, 1856. The marriages were childless.
