Wilhelm Karl von Treuenfels (* October 1740 in Oberkaufungen ; † July 15, 1813 in Breslau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of infantry regiment No. 29 .

Life

origin

His parents were the Hessian Rittmeister Johann Julius von Treuenfels and his wife Gertrud Elisabeth, née Kröschel, widowed Schminke.

Military career

Treuenfels joined the Hessian Guard in 1757 during the Seven Years' War . The Hessian army was part of the Allied Army in the west. He fought in the battles near Minden , Lutterberg , Vellinghausen , Friedberg , Wilhelmsthal and the sieges of Marburg , Wesel and Ziegenhain. The last one he was wounded. In 1758 he became a sergeant in the "Troll" regiment, on July 5, 1759, he became an ensign of the guard and on April 27, 1760, second lieutenant in the 4th Guard Battalion.

After the war, Treuenfels was transferred to the 2nd Guard in 1767, in 1768 he was transferred to the "Prince Karl" regiment and in 1770 he was then chief of staff in the Leibfüsilier Regiment. In 1774 he changed to Prussian service , on February 4, 1774 he was appointed captain and company commander in the 54th Infantry Regiment . With the regiment he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . He was promoted to major on March 10, 1784 and appointed commander of the 1st Battalion on December 7, 1784 . On June 27, 1790, he became the commander of the 2nd Battalion. On May 27, 1791 he became a lieutenant colonel , on August 25, 1792 regimental commander and on February 11, 1793 colonel . He took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794 . He was captured wounded in the Battle of Warsaw, but was soon exchanged.

On March 1, 1798 he was appointed chief of Infantry Regiment No. 29, and on June 11, 1798 he was promoted to major general . He took part in the Fourth Coalition War in 1806 and joined the Rüchel Corps. In the battle of Jena he was wounded in the attack on Kapellendorf . On August 26, 1808, he was retired with the character of lieutenant general, and he received a pension of 1200 thalers, of which only 600 thalers were paid out. On February 22nd, 1810 he received a gift of 200 thalers "in consideration of his poor circumstances" and on March 7th, 1810 he received an allowance "in consideration that you were the oldest major general in the army and had been wounded in the war since" of 200 thalers. He died on July 15, 1813 in Breslau.

Treuenfels married on August 10, 1776 Leopoldine Wilhelmine Mauritiane von Krosigk (born January 3, 1753), widowed by Young. (Daughter of August Wilhelm Friedrich von Krosigk (1706–1790) from the Alsleben family). The couple had several children:
